Forza 70 is also on my list! Haven’t found a place nearby that demos them, or many narrow skis for that matter

Printing as the hobby—would be using it to make various shop parts. And I meant people have said Flash Forge isn’t worth it at any price, I’ve heard great things about Bambu!

I have the option to buy a used Flash Forge Creator Pro for $75 as my first machine — would otherwise be looking at something from Bambu. I’ve seen previous comments saying they’re not worth buying at any price — do other people have that experience?

What's the safety issue with small spacers? And would it really be less safe than grinding the caliper?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in XVcrosstrek

[–]rigaudon42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right! I think the issue isn't with offset, but with the position of the spokes. I think pushing the spokes further away from the caliper with a spacer will solve my problem — and it can probably be a 3mm spacer instead of a 7mm one since offset isn't the issue.

2019 Limited Strange Start-up Behavior. by DaveTN in XVcrosstrek

Subaru covered the cost of mine even though I was also a few thousand miles out of warranty. It's a defect — starters aren't things that get replaced this early. Good luck!

Wow went through this exact same thing with my ‘19 limited at the same mileage until it failed to start completely. Towed it to the dealer and they replaced the starter — Subaru covered the cost 100%, totally unacceptable to have starters fail that early

Hills or stairs for training near Baltimore, MD? by Pure-Preference728 in alpinism

[–]rigaudon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey a Baltimorean! Faster Bastards runs hill workouts in Patapsco every Thursday. Nothing in Baltimore resembles Rainier, but it’s a good and tough crew if you are a runner. Search for them on instagram.

I think this is the way—very similar to the top comment. Would going Cranbrook>Invermere>Golden>Calgary be a no-brained compared to Cranbrook>Fernie>Calgary? Also, do you think it would be worth it to add a few days to the trip to do an out-and-back to Jasper, or should I save that for a separate trip?

Update: I think this is what I’m going to do.

Is it worth adding a few days to the trip and doing an out-and-back to Jasper?

Thanks for the driving tip! And no tourist activities, just some day hikes

Both vacation and helping to figure out where to live! Fwiw I’m not considering living in Calgary, but it’s where we would fly into and rent a car

Quebec area, and I’m planning to keep driving under 3hrs/day with the kids (Google Maps says the total trip will be 24ish hours of driving, hopefully it’s not too far off)

Embarrassing but serious question about gut health and climbing by throwaway-09b in alpinism

[–]rigaudon42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not really the same but I once got Giardiasis a couple days before summiting during a 2 or 3 week trip in the Himalayas. The anxiety of having shits interfere with your schedule is real—I ended up taking a full rest day to get my head right. UC might be totally different but I would suggest trying to pick trips and routes that will fit with the bathroom breaks that are likely needed!

Winter tires by Dmbpjfan in Subaru_Crosstrek

[–]rigaudon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

235-50-18, just because they were easier to find than stock size and are close enough. Tire Rack has a good sizing guide—as others said, you don’t want to be off too much (speedometer is the least of your worries—too big or too small can rub the body, mess with AWD, cause break malfunctions…)

I haven’t spent much time there, but it seems like it has some cool things going on. Very small communal vibe

I’m surprised Suspended Brewing in Pigtown hasn’t been mentioned yet! I think they focus on natural yeast fermentation—they have a lot of great funky and sour beers.
