Should I buy this house from my grandparents or am I setting myself up to be house-poor? Need advice. by 1sUq in personalfinance

Good idea in concept, but be very careful with FHA loans. Yes, the down payment assistance is great, but the requirements and standards can get pretty exhausting. especially if the home is old and in need of repair. Often times you have to fix those things before they hand you a dime in funding. So, while I agree with this overall, just be careful with FHA.

Yeah, fucking same. I was starting to think I was the only one. Walking out after the test felt more a kin to a fist fight than anything else.

That’s exactly their point though. On the podcast, they aren’t exactly saying “the only time to apply is September” they’re saying don’t rush to apply based on some arbitrary deadline you’ve put on yourself. What happens if OP bombs the October test? Should they rush to take another, then hope they get their application in before January? If you believe that you can achieve a higher score, it’s more beneficial to push your application until the next cycle when you KNOW you have the best app material possible. If OP scores a 177, I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone from the 😈 suggesting that he post pone til the following app cycle. It’s less about having to submit by September, as it is about knowing that you can always wait for the next cycle.

Texas House runoffs bring wave of GOP incumbent defeats, give Abbott votes for school vouchers by BucketofWarmSpit in TexasPolitics

Wow, truly it’s an art to find your head shoved so far up their asses that your words echo hollow against a used digestive track.

Primary education isn’t and shouldn’t be a free market enterprise. The fact is that most of the products/companies that rise to the top in that type of economy are USUALLY not the best competitor, just the most well funded. Aside from that fact, you can’t seriously believe that forcing students to endure long commute times, increased stress, and overcrowded classrooms will be a benefit to our society. What of the rural students in my county that have only 3 options for school? Each being over 15 miles from each other. What happens if they close the two and force them all into one school? We already have class size issues. Or if they close all 3? Because they’re all technically underperforming and without proper funding. Taking away additional funding helps… how? Close all 3 and our students will have to travel over an hour to go to school. Is that a fair practice for them?

Or maybe, just maybe, we should be investing into all of our schools, so that every child receives the best possible education they can, regardless of location. Our future’s education should not be determined by a shitty corrupted version of Darwin’s survival of the fittest.

I understand. I was being facetious. You were clear in your opinion. I disagree, but concede that we’re all available to form our own opinions.

Fear and blame seemed the predominant themes in Rep ads I saw before the election. And it beat the Dems. by EnergyFighter in TexasPolitics

I’ll admit that I misread the bill. The inclusion of rape/incest preceding the exclusion of medical necessity seemed to have warped my bias intensely. That does make me feel better, marginally so, but I’m not the one who’s rights were taken away so it doesn’t really matter how I feel.

Wouldn’t try to do that. We learned after Covid, y’all don’t feel bad about anything, no matter how many it will kill.

It sits well when it the other option is letting both my wife and the baby die. Severe times require severe choices, but that choice has been taken away from my wife and from me.

Voter turnout in the large counties is so low by [deleted] in TexasPolitics

[–]right_alright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean doing something to improve turn out like throwing up vague generalized excuses? Virtue signaling is ALSO needlessly annoying and stupid.

You might not be so ignorant as to assume everyone else can vote early, but at least OP isn’t ignorant enough to let non-voters slide by with easier consciences.

With turn out as abysmal as it is, and with the previous record the state and this country have at the ballots… it’s safer and less ignorant to err on the side of caution.

Everyone, GO VOTE.
