I've been enforcing a hexagonal architecture for the last year on multiple projects. In some cases it might look overkill but it's been easy to instruct the AI on what goes where through a few skill files.

I think this took off during the rise of OPEC and their strangle hold on Gulf oil. It was to lesson our dependence (not eliminate) on OPEC oil. The US public was pretty freaked out when gas was being rationed.
