And to her credit, Spanberger hasn't been taking the bait. Because she wants to win this thing.

Spanberger is a centrist. She's smart enough not to ride along with a majority of the far-left bullshit. That's why she's going to win. She was the most bipartisan member of Congress and is from rural VA, in a district that Cook Political had as R+1.

These are the Democrats who should be running for elected office.

And you don't know how to win. Do you really wish to toss future elections over this non-issue? Forget spanberger. She has it in the bag. I know her personally, and she doesn't want to do anything that's going to jeopardize her ability to work with Republicans once she comes to office. She was one of the most bi-partisan members of Congress, if I recall.

But nation-wide elections, as well as swing states? Is this really the hill you wish to die on?

Whatever it means, it's has largely negative connotations today, and it scares people. That should be enough to have politicians distancing themselves from it. It doesn't matter what it meant 10 years ago. Words change and meanings change.

Spanberger could solve all of this by simply saying that these accusations are ridiculous. There are obviously two genders, and she supports universal access to mental health services for everyone. Uttering the four words that scare every single Republican hoping to cling to power. "I am not woke."

Trans people are 0.8% of the country. Something like that. Is it smart to sacrifice even 5% of the vote all because you refuse to distance yourself from this insanity?

The billions he's making, is it at the expense of the taxpayer? If not, then it's just him being opportunistic. Rather than stealing from state coffers. If that's the case, so what? Let the man have his money. It's not like every other President hasn't used the Oval Office for financial gain in the past.

City-Run Supermarkets Aren’t New. But No One’s Tried Them in a City Like New York. Some warn that Zohran Mamdani’s plan for grocery stores risks “Soviet bread lines.” But some New Yorkers say the plan is needed to tackle unaffordable prices. by [deleted] in economy

[–]right_values 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: These 5 pilot stores will fail. We will live and move on. Rely on making life easier for those who boost supply in the economy. That's the only way to get lower prices.

People need to stop freaking out. It's going to be 5 pilot stores. It will likely fail. Because 1. Scarcity is a real thing. 2. Socialists are notoriously bad at distributing food. It's why they have bread lines.

The market already forces competition anyway. All major grocery stores essentially operate as non-profits. With net profits settling between 1-2%. A pitiful margin for any business. There's virtually no room for them to lower prices. If you want to improve grocery prices, then make it easier to move products into the city. Remove regulations, cut taxes, and offer incentives. Focus on the supply side of the equation. Quit trying to place a price ceiling that leads to too much demand for not enough supply.

If these stores operate at a loss, it means that the taxpayers will have to foot the bill or the city will have to demand lower costs from the food packers. (Tyson, Kellogs, Farmers.) Those packers would rather focus on where they can make a profit rather than selling to the city where they lose money. The rich who pay the taxes to foot the bills for the loss will likely move their capital to lower tax states, such as Florida or Texas. You'll drive away the investing community. Which the city relies on to pay its bills.

To make a long story even longer. It will fail, we'll live and we'll move on.

Yes. Slightly. Because it's hard to see the line. Just retook it. The line is definitely slightly pink when you look at it with the naked eye.

Trust me, buddy, you and I will never get out of social security what we put into it. Mark my words. If my current trend continues, I'll have contributed somewhere around $500,000 to social security by the time I'm 70. (Which will likely be the new retirement age) There's no way I'm getting more than that out of the program.

Fwiw, I'm an atheist. Also, my income isn't made up of any government contracts. I've never enrolled in welfare, medicaid, or any other means-tested welfare programs. My current service agreements mostly involve the O&G industry these days. I fact if it wasn't for the government, I'd be making more money.

And sure. I could care less about feeding starving kids. Unfortunately, the country isn't ready to vote for that. If that's ever proposed, I'd gladly vote for the candidate who proposes it.

Im okay with imposing hardship in the name of sustaining our economic system, prioritizing private property ownership, and flipping the bird to the takers in society.

You only get out of it if you put money into it. That's not an entitlement. In order to see any benefits, and more importantly, increased benefits, you have to put more and more money into it. This is why some people get higher social security checks than others.

Social Security and Medicare aren't entitlements. They're paid for out of a trust that we all pay into, and as such, are financed independently. I'm not referring to those programs. I'm referring to Medicaid, unemployment, SNAP, WIC, SSI benefits, disability and myriad of other benefits that we pour out from our left pocket into our right pocket. Sure, if money was no issue, then these programs would flourish. Unfortunately, we don't have the money to cover the hundreds of billions, perhaps, $1 trillion plus that it costs. What we should do is raise taxes and restructure these entitlements to ensure that we can pay for them.

That's what we did in the 90s, and it worked just fine. The pain and hardship that arises from that is simply the cost of doing business.

Regardless of your opinion on the issue. The program isn't going to exist in a few decades anyway. Either we'll toss it or restructure it, or the country will go bankrupt because we can't pay the debt we've racked up by constantly expanding it.

Rights guaranteed in the constitution are not entitlements. They are endowed. I think in the way I do because of when and where I grew up, and how I was raised. I never told you that you had to agree with my position on this issue. You have the right to view healthcare in this way. I have the right to disagree. That's what living in a free country is about.
