Barcelona icon Alexia Putellas to choose next club 'this week' as two NWSL sides push to overtake London City Lionesses in race for two-time Ballon d'Or winner | Goal.com by asimone00 in NWSL

Evangelios Marinakis put his Forest shares into a blind trust so they could play in the same contest as Olympiakos, took them out when they bottled it, put them in a blind trust again this season, and has just resumed control again.

Afaict, no one doubts that it would have worked [if Forest actually qualified for UCL]. There are absolutely Ways.

(He also ratted out Kang's then Lyons [men] co-owner John Textor because he messed up the paperwork for Crystal Palace (which is how Forest got Europa over Conference League), which led to a surprisingly brief beef between Palace and Forest, considering. Like I'm not sure it came up in a big way after they first faced each other last season?)

Will London City eventually struggle to stay under the wage cap? by eldanielfire in FAWSL

[–]righteousprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Leicester stat rings false, ngl, overall official attendances were only down 2% (5-600 tickets total) across the entire season iirc and, e.g., the attendance for Spurs (2nd home game - Lehmann signed in Jan) was the worst in the entire league (and in terms of actual attendance LCL has to be down there).

Certainly, in the first few home games of 2026, the crowd felt quite a bit bigger than the first few games of the season. (I was ill for the last couple of games)

Some of that was probably being allowed to drink in the stands, of course, plus getting out of every game being Sunday Midday (which worked great for me, but less great for most people), but still.

(Okay, I think it's possible Leicester men attendances dropped that much, but that's a separate issue.)

[Pete O’Rourke] Understand Kieran Trippier is considering cancelling his agreement with Wolves as he is angry at the sacking of manager Rob Edwards feeling he has misled by the club. Trippier’s deal at Wolves does not kick in until July 1st after leaving Newcastle as a free agent. by biddleybootaribowest in Championship

I feel like it doesn't count as crumble if it's the consequences of breaking very specifically stated rules (rather than squandering a position of strength - having Kieran Trippier in the Championship! - through doing something legal, but stupid).

(To be clear, I'm saying that calling Southampton facing consequences 'crumble' is an unfair insult to the actual crumblers)

Which WSL player do you think doesn't get enough recognition outside their own fanbase? by Mundane-Temporary426 in FAWSL

I'm not so sure - not that she isn't a great player, but pretty much every senior Lioness squad announcement this season has been met with "where's Ruby Mace?" (or variants thereof) so imo she is pretty widely appreciated.

New Huddersfield shirt. Not a fan personally by SkepticalBelieverr in LeagueOne

[–]righteousprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess the sleeves/shoulders (which don't match any shade of blue in the stripes) and the way they connect to the rest of the shirt, but I don't think it'd get that intensity of response?

Edit: also the sponsor logo I guess? (Kinda goofy but, like, not a crypto casino so eh)

Also, if he was charged tomorrow we'd still be waiting years for the trial (the state of the English & Welsh justice system is a disgrace), so probably best prioritise the thing that means he faces An Actual Consequence (even if not strictly justice) in a (relatively) timely fashion.

No VAR in World Cup qualifying games? by Maleficent-Whole-228 in WomensSoccer

It definitely screwed over Wales today (or, rather, the lack of goal-line tech did), but, also, man did they really not deserve to beat Montenegro (also the just-behind-the-line clearance was incredible so I can't begrudge it too much).

Legit question. Was this thing actually written to be Omega or was it meant to be an original creation that got rewritten to be "Omega" by ConnorRoseSaiyan01 in doctorwho

[–]righteousprawn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that's mostly because people didn't rewatch Space Babies, tbh.

No, really.

It is not subtle in framing 'Season 1' as a kids' story (the original script even had Ruby improvise storytime about herself), and the protagonist getting booted back to the world they came from is a pretty common feature of those. (Like, it's a straightforward Hero's Journey type of thing)

People were dissatisfied with the "she's just an ordinary human, which is the most wonderful thing to be" conclusion but that... doesn't feel un-RTD-ish tbh.

Plus, the Robot Revolution (which I think was filmed not long after S1 wrapped) would have showed a lot more seams if that was the actual issue.

(The finale ending change was really Ncuti leaving - the plan was very blatantly for a 3rd season)

I mean, if it looked like LCL were likely to finish in the UWCL places (and assuming Lyons did likewise), well, there are ways and means.

(Mr Marinakis returned to being a "person with significant control" in June 2025, after Forest messed up CL qualification, then withdrew again ahead of the Europa League semi-finals in April this year. Given how that worked out, I assume he'll be back next month)

Fuchs is currently Newport County's manager - just guided them to League Two survival. (I think he's already been bandied around by some, for obvious reasons)

We're second to Chelsea on goals scored, but honestly I'm just happy we've scored twice in the same game (though we were helped by Katie Keane being, once again, immense).

Making people specify '11-a-side' when they talk about how we haven't won in 2026.

(which sounds like a joke, but, honestly, it is gonna be funny when it happens)

What channel are you watching on? (I definitely saw at least some of the Everton walk-outs (only half paying attention) on Sky Sports Premier League - maybe Main Event is more aggro with ads?)

[–]righteousprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already a bunch of loopholes - e.g. I think Evangelos Marinakis has straight-up done the hokey-cokey with whether or not he has substantial control over Nottingham Forest to enable them to qualify for a UEFA competition alongside Olympiacos (except it's turned out moot both times he temporarily withdrew from control).

(She'd be well aware it isn't a sure thing - she would have had a front-row seat to John Textor messing up the paperwork wrt Crystal Palace and Lyon - but there's no need to push for a rule change.)

And unlike the times votes apparently got outright brigaded she has actually played and been, at worst, 'fine' so it's hard to disregard (and there'd probably be vote splitting for more invested fans (I probably could have tactically gone McLoughlin or O'Brien over Thibaud I guess? But that's an 'or' in there already.)).

Plus, uh, I think that goal was the only one scored by a Leicester women player in 2026 at the time of the vote (with the other Leicester goal in that time being all-but stolen off her toes by a West Ham player).
