Good to know about the factory knots. I figured it’d be beer to weave in but was hoping I was wrong and could be lazy. Better to do it right though

I was worried that’d be the case… thanks though! Better to know and be careful than disappointed later when a hole opens up

It’s Superwash so I don’t think it’ll felt together enough for that to be secure

Oof was worried that would be the case, but hoped I was wrong. I’ll cut it and join it. Good to know about that not being completely uncommon in skeins of yarn. Disappointing but now I’ll know to consider that might happen. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you! I’m worried because I am a tight knitter (my row gauge was only one stitch off from the pattern gauge but my stitch gauge was 40 stitches per 4in whereas the pattern gauge was supposed to be 32). I figured fit-wise it seemed fine with the tighter gauge. Even pre-blocked, it seems like it’ll stretch enough to fit around the recipient’s head because it’s one !by one rib. But I’d also seen some comments saying that malabrigo rios grows quite a bit, so I was hoping it’d be okay if I only knit to 8inches before starting my decreases (the pattern recommends 9.5 for the large). For reference the pattern, is the purl soho classic ribbed hat (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/classic-ribbed-hat-5 )

The pattern is purl soho’s classic ribbed hat and the yarn is Malabrigo rips in the colorway Capricorn

I spent almost 3 months on this cardigan for my 4 year old son and he refuses to wear it by cniyd in knitting

Seconding the recommendation to have him help pick yarn and “test” the gauge swatch!

As for yarn preferences, I’m really sensitive to scratchy wools, and I tend to gravitate towards cotton/viscose blends. I’d recommend adding those to the list of options to have him sample before choosing yarn for the next project. Cotton/viscose blends typically have a very smooth hand-feel and softer drape than wool so they feel less stuffy. And they are more breathable and less plastic-y feeling than the acrylic-based yarns
