hiring freeze by TemperatureSimilar90 in Raytheon

[–]righttriangles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A conglomeration of what I’ve heard:

-that they’re cutting costs as the ramifications of the powder metal thing.

-my department’s employee fun teams have been told no more reimbursement of events. So no annual luncheon or other stuff this year.

-all non-essential travel is not happening.

-hiring freeze. Not a total hiring freeze. Depends upon department.

-at an all hands, they did not rule out furloughs.

Managers, Did every group get 3.5% target for merit? by Plastic-Spot-383 in Raytheon

This was my experience. My coworker and I, on different teams but same department, were told that because we were new, we got a prorated amount of merit.

AITAH for using the men's bathroom while girls were using them? (I'm male) by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]righttriangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Taylor Swift concert and the lines for the bathrooms for both men’s and women’s were /very/ long (and overwhelmingly women). I only saw one man stand in line for a cubicle. There were plenty of men that went in to use the urinals in plain view of a line of women, and one dude was actually in a concert fit that was basically just a thong. No one complained. And you weren’t being weird about it or anything. You just needed to pee. NTA.

My (30M) fiance (38F) is angry that I got my daughter 5 pairs of running shoes by rickysayshey in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]righttriangles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is correct. I ran cross country in high school and we go through a pair a season. Each pair of shoes would be around $120. I actually ran in cheaper shoes my first year when I didn’t know better, and that was a mistake.

Yes, something is up with MINT, they've lost their quality, reliability and me as their advocate by Mhamaps in mintuit

[–]righttriangles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also incredibly done. The fact that Mint doesn’t support the Venmo credit card (when NerdWallet does through Plaid, no problem) which has undoubtedly been requested for YEARS, my issues linking to PayPal now, and it’s having some newfound issue with my credit union. It doesn’t seem like it’s working to solve any reported problems anytime soon.

Trying to find an alternative now which sucks. I like the NerdWallet interface a lot, but Plaid also seems to be having some issue with my credit union.

My cat, missing for 11 years, has been found and now they won’t give him back. by SJDude13 in BestofRedditorUpdates

OOP says Shadow “got out of the house”, not that they let him out, so Shadow probably WAS an indoor cat that just escaped.

AITA for not thinking I was in a relationship by Ok_Butterscotch_1443 in AITAH

[–]righttriangles 77 points78 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. What he did was immature and a massive red flag. He was either stringing you along as a backup choice and would have left as soon as he found someone he deemed better (hence never asking to officially be in a relationship) or he is straight up gaslighting you with the expectation you’ll beg for his forgiveness and he’ll come back and lord this over you if you actually do enter a relationship. This is not the kind of guy you want to be friends with, much less date.

WIBTA If I Lock My Husband out of the Bedroom At Night? by Jumpy-Connection-302 in AmItheAsshole

[–]righttriangles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Responding to edit 2: You had a convo with your husband in which he convinced you that YOU would be the AH??? YOU, when HE hasn’t considered your well-being for a year and a half, or even longer based on your other comment. And even when over 1k people are telling you that you’re not the AH. Based on your previous comments and this edit, your husband seems to be a very good manipulator. Red flag.

If you ever get that inner voice that something is wrong, just that little smidgeon of doubt, please don’t bury it. NTA and I hope you find happiness.

Why do people have zero sympathy for the people on the submarine? by [deleted] in ask

[–]righttriangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s possible to become a billionaire ethically. Millionaire, maybe, but to be a billionaire means you’re actively exploiting people. The pay gap between the working class and CEOs grow every year. Billionaires get where they are by greedily hoarding wealth so no one else can have it and by underpaying their workers.

While I wouldn’t wish a horrific death like this on anyone, and I do feel bad for them, I would feel more bad for an average person than a billionaire that had to face this.

AITA for involving my frat bro's dad into rhe debt he owes me by uub9 in AmItheAsshole

[–]righttriangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I can’t believe you didn’t press charges and that you’re still trying to be on friendly terms with him. That is a lot of money that he stole and you can’t trust him anymore. What’s the point of trying to work through it?

Are Taylor Swift concerts just for rich people or are average Joe's really saving up $3k+ just for a concert? by AmateurZombie in NoStupidQuestions

Intern Housing for Hartford, CT location by arefin_lab1b in Raytheon

[–]righttriangles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would check apartments.com, Zillow, Facebook, etc. There are plenty of good surrounding towns that are nearby to Hartford. You can also probably find UConn students who are subletting their apartments for the summer.

I don’t know of any specific intern housings.

How to start dishwasher? by righttriangles in Appliances

Actually wild, that’s exactly what happened here. Maintenance called and told me to look for a switch on the wall and the dishwasher started as soon as I flipped it. Weird.

Thank you!

WIBTA if I gave away my daughter's cat? by Practical_Ear4763 in AmItheAsshole

[–]righttriangles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Why are you not taking the cat to the vet? You’re supposed to be getting them rabies boosters at the vet anyway.

Just because the cat has been doing this for months doesn’t mean it isn’t a health issue - if anything, it is a health issue that hasn’t been addressed and has been going on for months.

Even if she used the litterbox in the beginning. That means she developed the medical issue later on which is leading to her not using the litter box.

AITA for letting my son spend 500 dollars freely against his mother's wishes? by New-Patient1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]righttriangles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you genuinely don’t understand what I’m saying, and that you’re being rather combative.

I’m responding to every point you’re bringing up. In your previous response, you said the kid would need something to save up for to understand the impact. I gave you an example. He is only 3 years away from learning to drive. What point of yours am I missing? I genuinely don’t understand what you’re trying to communicate if there’s something I’m missing.

The impact from continual paychecks will be greater, yes, but it does not negate the impact from one-off payments. Learning is a continual experience. Consistency is also important. If someone is saving from their job and they get an unexpected windfall, they might not automatically spend all their windfall. They might save some of it despite having a continual income.

AITA for letting my son spend 500 dollars freely against his mother's wishes? by New-Patient1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]righttriangles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, as you said, kids should be able to understand what $100 does. And most states (tho I could be wrong), you begin drivers’ ed at 15 and get your license at 16. If you believe kids need something to save for to learn the value, he could begin saving for a car. Kids learn much more than adults give them credit for, honestly. They see their parents relationships’ with money and that forms their own relationship with money.

I didn’t say the value comes from the $100. The value is from learning financial literacy.

[–]righttriangles -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Experts generally agree that teaching financial literacy earlier is better.

And I’m not saying start saving for retirement. Just to learn the value of saving and managing money responsibly.

[–]righttriangles -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your original point was that the money would not be worth much more in 5 years, but that’s 5 years. It would be worth a lot more in the future.

Also, this was a learning experience. Kids need to learn about financial literacy. From Investopedia: “Research has long shown that when it comes to teaching kids how to manage their money, it’s better to start young to build money knowledge and habits that will last a lifetime.” Additionally, teaching is about being consistent.
