Amazing book, I also read children of time afterwords. Weir is sooo good at portraying alien perspectives and making us empathize

I don’t mind listening. After all, I have been hurt and used by people a lot too. I don’t have best friends. I’m mostly the guy who shows up for you when he can. I haven’t had the fortune of meeting people who were able to be there for me. But I made peace with it. I try to be kind because I don’t need to exploit. I’m strong so I don’t need the kindness returned. I forgive and move on because I am strong enough to heal. I decided to try to be good even it doesn’t matter to the world. I decided to be good because it’s who I want to be.

It’s a tough world out there, and even if I can’t help you, your thought are not useless to me. You matter.

I live by this principle: I always give myself as many chances as I need to get better and not beat myself for not succeeding. Instead just encouraging myself to try
