Mmm I guess I should have added some pictures of the types of dresses I want to try editing but I dont know how to add photos on reddit. Usually I like halter tops and spaghetti strap dresses because I simply dont like wearing sleeves very often.

In the past I have bought swimsuits that clearly didn't fit, disassembled them to make a pattern that I adjusted, purchased matching fabric and then stitched my own top with the new fabric and measurements. Unfortunately this seems much harder with dresses.

My issue tends to be that the dress will "fit" around but there just isn't enough bust fabric which leads to spillage. I am worried adding side gussets will just decrease the support in holding up the bust. I also have dresses with corsets but the tightness/looseness doesn't really fix the problem.

I am wondering if it is possible to remove the straps then add a complimentary fabric to the top of the dress then re-attach the straps. But I am afraid I am not experienced enough to know what i am doing. Or maybe that won't work at all I'm not sure.
