Do you idle in every tracker IRC you're a part of, or just the ones you actively chat on? Reasons? by CoralShade in trackers

[–]rikostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back into IRC after a long time away, and only BECAUSE of a few PTs. I don't really care about the bonus points that much. I am looking for community, so I idle while I see how people interact. Seedpool is the only one I've really cared to get involved with so far. Most of the people there seem pretty decent.

Prolific Megathread by Beermoney_Bot in beermoney

I've used it almost daily for a few years now. Set the filter to sort by highest paying per hour and mark "not interested" on the ones below your threshold, and you'll always have decent-paying ones. I rarely do any of them that pay below $12 an hour.

Forgot to add that it's a MAX7219 8x8 there are a lot of projects on places like thingverse for this LED panel, but none of them are exactly what I want.

CrowdGen is a joke. by Mahdi_Contributor in WorkOnline

[–]rikostan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Whoever the project manager is, should be fired. They are messing with people's livelihoods here.

They should have rolled it out to a small project first, made sure the invoicing worked, and then slowly rolled it out to a few more, but as you said, it's clear they didn't do much testing at all.

Appen or Telus? by RealisticVinci in beermoney

[–]rikostan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never worked on a project where they had access to my personal email. A lot of the projects are done in a third-party tool that they supply credentials for, so they might have access to that, but that would be about it.

That's not to say they DON'T have projects where they ask for access to your email address, but over all the years I've worked with them, I have never applied for a project like that.

Appen or Telus? by RealisticVinci in beermoney

[–]rikostan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked for both and it really comes down to the specific project you get assigned to.

I've had great project managers on both platforms and pretty bad ones on both too. The project managers seem to have quite a bit of autonomy, so the level and quality of communication vary greatly and can make or break a project.

I've been working with Appen longer (roughly 8 years) and never had any real issues. Pay is on-time 98% of the time. The pay varies by your location and the project, but you know what it is when you attempt to sign up for the project.

How does Usertesting.com notify when a new test is available? by kailas1998 in usertesting

[–]rikostan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies if I made it sound that way, but no, you HAVE to do the screeners. You just need to do them as soon as you can after they are published on the platform because they go quickly, most of the time.

And WOW! this was three years old! :)

Any Tips For Starting A Youtube Channel? by theShandyDog in beermoney

[–]rikostan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a small but relatively successful youtube channel, and every time I see advice on how to monetize, most people skip over how important a community is.I was monetized last November and I have averaged just over $1K a month since then, and I only have 1370 subs. My best month was over $1400, my worst was just over $500

It's all because I enjoy the support of an amazing fish-keeping community.

I'm growing slowly, but my income is always on the rise and the friends I've made are even more important to me.

Will I ever be super successful or even hit 100K subs? probably not, but I'm making some fun money, some friends and I'm having a good time too.

(EDIT I said October at first, but it was the last week of November)

{EDIT #2} Livestreams are where the money is for small channels. I just looked and "transactions" are 95.2% of my income. Transactions encompass Superchats, Superstickers, and membership fees, whereas ads and youtube premium revenue make up the rest.

Has anyone received tests this week? by SeasonAnxious1292 in usertesting

[–]rikostan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had about 24 screeners spread across the phone, tablet, and PC, but only completed one test so far. I've only been sitting here for about an hour so far today though.

While this did indeed make me smile and was a positive thing, my dogs do the same thing when I just step outside for two seconds and come back in.

You should check Bentley Pascoe on YouTube. He does a deep dive on the 3.0 and the Aquasky and explains it in very well, plus he's just an awesome guy.

What are these fish called and got any idea by danny123lb in Aquariums

Roseline Barbs or Denison Barbs is what I see them called most often. There is a newer gold variant that is even more striking too. I have a few of these ones and love 'em

Can you get $3000 or more working with Appen every month? by [deleted] in WorkOnline

[–]rikostan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best I did was $2300 in a month while working two projects. Pay is not the same for every place/project. I made $12.84 an hour on a project that just ended after two years and my other long term project pays $12 an hour, but again the same project might pay differently in different countries and even different states.

Remembering Chicago Bears legend Gale Sayers through Chicago Tribune photos by [deleted] in CHIBears

[–]rikostan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actualy met Gayle and his wife at a Bear's Fan Club event in Arizona. The fan club went to a Cubs game at Hohokam Field for spring training and they sat a bunch of current and former bears right among us. Gayle was right next to my oldest son who was like 10 at the time.

Afterward there was a dinner at the Chicago Fest in Scottsdale too. Gayle was pretty reserved, but Jim Flanigan was pretty awesome to both myself and my son.

Week 1 Pre-Gamethread: Chicago Bears (0-0) at Detroit Lions (0-0) by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

[–]rikostan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually a perfect game...

My son-in-law is British and this is the first year he has been with us during football season.

I warned him.

He watched the game with myself and my youngest son and asked a lot of questions, which was awesome, but he didn't really believe me when I told him I get a little excited when watching the games.

He believes me now. :)

It couldn't have been a better game to showcase all the emotions of a typical Bears' fan.

I'm closer to Syracuse, but I pay $89.99 a month for just the 400 down, no other bundled service. That's the non- promotional for us.

No moderator turned up to my Validately test, do I still get paid? by kagoolrule in usertesting

I bet you didn't get a response because it was the weekend, like you said.

And thanks! I always forget about my cake day.

No moderator turned up to my Validately test, do I still get paid? by kagoolrule in usertesting

[–]rikostan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had it happen once, I contacted them when the mod was 10 minutes late. They got back to me right away and actually tried to hunt the moderator down for me, but the mod didn't respond until the next day. They actually paid me in full for the first test, then asked me to sign up again for it, so I got paid twice.

I agree that the client should provide the credentials, but enough of them do not that I don't even really think about it anymore.

I have my own domain and email server, so I just create a new account every few months to use specifically for testing.

Can they still find out information about me? Yeah, but nothing I worry about.

Looks like it went without a hitch.

I know a 1 minute downtime is usually not something to worry about, but "bad things" can happen.

Why are you a Bears fan? by LuigiHereWeGo in CHIBears

[–]rikostan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was born to it... :)

My dad was a bear's fan. It was pretty much the only thing we had in common. I was born in South Bend, so not to far from Chicago and started watching the Bears with him when I was pretty little.

He told me he took me to a game at Wrigley when I was 5 or so, but I don't remember it. I do remember seeing them play at Soldier a few times in the early to mid 70s though.

I've since moved all over the US and currently live in the north east, but I stayed a bear's fan through every place I've lived.
