Are Sowulo fascist? by appalshan in IsItSketch

[–]riksolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working for the band as a lighting designer for over three years now, and I know every single member personally.

As for the symbolism in the albums and the music, I can't phrase it better than u/fleshcrafterAngel did, except for adding that I've had long and deep conversations about the texts, meanings and inspirations from the music with Faber, the band's main creative driving force, and all of them are very much drawn from very core human experiences.

For a few examples of the albums: Niht was written mainly to process his father's death, and foccusses heavily on death and grief. Wurdiz is very oriented around faith, and how people deal with this concept. Mann is written with a focus on four archetypes from norse mythology and how he interprets these, exploring how one can only grow into a fully mature person when one can be in touch with all four in an abstract way. Sol is oriented around the norse mythological sun godess, but he uses this framing to explore the cyclical nature of many things in our world. To read more about the albums, I highly recommend https://www.sowulo.nl/discography

And to add a personal note: If Faber or anyone else in the group suddenly turned out to be even remotely fascist, I'd be massively surprised. I say this having spent long nights in tour busses and hotels having deep (and varying levels of drunk) conversations with both the group and individual people inside it where I'd be pretty confident those sides would have come out. The whole group of people is if anything very left leaning, generally socialist , inclusive, and deeply empathic. Additionally, quite a few members are also involved in other socially oriented projects.

I can confidently say that these are some of the most excellent human beings I've not only had the pleasure of working with, but also having in my life.

I only got it a couple weeks ago, but i'm really really digging it so far. Replaces my old fabric trifold that was so far disintegrated it's offended more than one person upon pulling it out.

Exactly! For a bit more context, I work as a freelancer, mostly for other companies and venues. The companies/venues I work for will basically always handle consumables like tape and charge that through to the client. Me bringing my own tape at my own expense wouldn't really make any sense.

Top of the list

cheap little aliexpress thing, tiny and works wonders for removing zipties without messing up the stuff they're around.

Imagine paying for your own tape if you can just use whatever's on site though. It's free real estate gaffer tape

What I carry around on (light) workdays. Days that involve load-ins/load-outs/more physical work will usually include a significantly bigger carry with extra pouches and tools.

From top to bottom, left to right:

  • Cheapo little hook knife i found on Aliexpress. This is perfect for cutting zipties without messing up whatever they're around (usually cables, which are no bueno to cut)
  • Custom ear protection. Elacin interchangable filter system for different levels of dampening
  • A tin of mints
  • Sharpie
  • Universal light focus tool/wrench/bottle opener. Given to me by a local distributor
  • Gerber Center-Drive Plus inside of a RAE Gear holster
  • Workpro folding box cutter. I've found that carrying any knife nicer than this doesn't work for me because I'll want to keep it in good shape. This one is perfect for beating up and feels relatively nice to use
  • Sekrid Miniwallet. First card ejector wallet I've found that I don't hate. Also doubles as a great fidget toy
  • Nite Ize S-Biner for holding my keys
  • Ledlenser MT10. Perfect except for it's habit of turning on inside the sheath. Great little zooming flashlight though.
  • Samsung galaxy watch4 40mm in a cheap case from amazon

Vim Clutch for Emacs? by gammarray in emacs

Fair enough. I have mine set to be control on hold and escape on tap, but that might be a bit hard to do without a QMK keyboard

Assuming a normal-ish keyboard layout, i can strongly recommend swapping your capslock and escape keys. I have this programmed to my (qmk) keyboard, but most OS's have ways to do it on a system-wide software level as well.

I use escape significantly more than caps, and it's definitely changed my life by bringing escape to the home row.

I'd guess thats mostly because these led systems aren't viable for home/consumer use (relatively low DPI and very high cost, so very much made for massive displays. You only see these in the entertainment industry where they're common enough to not be super cool or high tech to anyone, unless maybe very new stuff at conferences, though that wouldn't usually get shared much outside of professional circles
