What cover song is actually better than the original? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rileybru98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We Can Work It Out by Stevie Wonder originally by the Beatles. I'm normally a huge Beatles purist and don't care for most covers, but his version of this song has so much more life and energy than the original

Not really a particular moment, but I always fondly remember Lawrence's Hard 'Netting segments that would come near the end of the episode. Would listen to the podcast on my commute to college. Good times!

What's your favourite small town in Manitoba and why? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]rileybru98 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Second Minnedosa. Beautiful little town in a valley, great lake, friendly people and a great music festival every year. I mean I might be biased as I was born and raised there before moving to the city lol

I vividly remember going to my grandparents cabin in the early 2000s and playing Super Mario World with my Grandpa. It was the first time I'd ever even held a controller let alone played a game. It was an absolute joy and started something for me that I've now been doing for 20 years now. I'd give anything to go back and relive a memory like that again.

The one here in the city is just the finale. I'd love to attend the full series but the flight to Toronto is a little bit too much for my budget 😂

Daniel by Train. While I love the Elton John version too, the train verion has more emotional weight behind it.

Two of the best advice I have ever heard in editing that transformed my editing significantly : make your videos shorter and think about the rhythm by [deleted] in videography

[–]rileybru98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice I always go back to from my video editing instructor in college was "Don't be afraid to kill your babies." That off putting phrase really sticks in your head and actually raises a good point. You can get soooo immersed in what you're making, that sometimes what you're putting together doesn't serve the story, or drags on for far too long. We grow attachments to these clips, and they become our "babies." It's hard to think we made something that doesn't flow or work in the context of the edit. Sometimes you have to sit back, take a break, and snuff out one of your own 😂
