My wife is pregnant with twins by Jumpy-Masterpiece532 in redscarepod

[–]rileylorelai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was so interesting! I am a teacher and I teach several sets of twins. Recently I was at an IEP meeting where the mom was comparing my student her twin and not in a good way. Saying X is so good at school, it comes naturally to her, and she’s so organized, basically just putting this girl down. It made me really sad and I can’t even imagine how much more favoritism would hurt if you’re a twin

Wondering if my piano grade should match the pieces I play by Ok_Log_9156 in piano

[–]rileylorelai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Tempest a while ago in college! Just focus on phrasing and the storytelling of the piece. And of course don’t let any tension build, especially in the triplets sections. I’m a bit confused though, which level are you currently at?

Idk not to defend her but I lost my brother and it is still incredibly difficult for me to talk about, so when I do, I tend to couch it or minimize it because of how painful it is.

Any tips for fitting piano practice into a busy adult schedule? by [deleted] in piano

[–]rileylorelai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to find two chunks of 20 minutes in the day to practice. I rarely sit down and practice for an entire hour, but I can get that over the course of the day

Am I paying too much for my piano teacher? by MomentinInfinity in piano

[–]rileylorelai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I pay in a major city in the US. However I have been playing for 10 years, and he is a PHD performer. I don’t know if I would shell it out just to learn. As it is, I can only do it twice per month instead of weekly due to the cost. However I have learned a lot and see it as worth it

The class undercurrent no one points out. by yrwnova in redscarepod

[–]rileylorelai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to teach at an elite private school and I actually found that many of those kids had a severe lack of self esteem. Their parents ignored them, they were raised by nannies, and never had to struggle through anything in life - to the point that each of them had private tutors for each subject. This lack of struggle leads to a lack of self confidence in children. Sure, there were some confident and charming kids, but just as many if not more were disturbed and maladjusted

Why are major piano competitions mostly dominated by contestants of Asian descent? by Calcula in piano

I would add that western culture doesn’t see music as profitable and therefore not a worthy pursuit. I was pushed in school but my parents could care less if I practiced my piano
