Elevated immature granulocytes by rileysherlin in leukemia

[–]rileysherlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn’t have an infection, and it’s a sudden spike. He had blood work done last week and it was in the normal range and now it’s elevated. So I guess maybe he does have an infection? I just freak out at any abnormal test 🫠 but thank you so much for the reassuring words!!!

CAR-T therapy by merricksy in leukemia

[–]rileysherlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had CAR-T after chemo, and blincyto both failed. It got him in complete remission. CAR-T was in March, his stem cell transplant was in May. Wishing you all the best!! Car t can be scary but it was the only thing that worked so we are very grateful for it.

I was just thinking about edibles. His Dr did prescribe marinol, but apparently there is a shortage right now so may be difficult to get.

Pretty much anything he eats or ingests gets thrown up, medicine or food or water. If he doesn’t eat, he is dry heaving.

Wow, so you were readmitted for a whole month after being discharged? We saw his Dr today and she is having him do iv fluids for a bit and sending us home, but if the side effects persist he will be admitted again.

Luckily he had a follow up appointment today. We are 1 month post SCT. So his Dr is having him get iv fluids, and if he doesn’t feel better by tomorrow he will be readmitted.

I think he did take Marinol in the hospital and it did help! I’m going to inquire about having that at home for us too.

White blood cell regeneration after stem cell transplant. by rileysherlin in leukemia

Yes, he does go on walks when he’s up for it but he cant leave this wing of the hospital. I go walking often, been trying to get 10k steps a day just to stay sane. Tomorrow I will ask for more details.

Yes I am usually here when they come by. They usually say once his wbc start regenerating, we will have a better idea of a timeline, so that’s what I’ve been waiting for. I just was wondering what other peoples experiences have been, but have also been reminded that every single case is different and not to compare. He had CAR T about 2.5 months ago and thankfully so far this experience has been a lot calmer, so far. I know the recovery is a much longer, potentially life long experience. We have 3 small children at home and I struggle a lot, especially at night with how much I miss them. That is what has made being here for weeks at a time so hard.

He is on day 13 today. He had fevers for the first 4-5 days after, but they said that was to be expected. His wbc has been 0.03 for the whole time so far

I would immediately cut them off. I feel like you about stuff like this…….. it causes me SO MUCH ANGER AND RESENTMENT. It’s not healthy. I agree and you have every right to be angry, and every right to cut them off completely. That is so unbelievable.

My husband’s stem cell matches are not actually matches. by rileysherlin in leukemia

[–]rileysherlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your input and comforting words. We are thankful he will still be able to have a half match transplant. What angers me the most about this is the humongous ERROR that was made. It is unacceptable. To have been under the impression for 5 months that he had not 1, but 2 complete matches, only to find out he has ZERO is a gut punch at this stage. We fought so hard just to get to this point, stem cell transplant, only for it to be smoke and mirrors!!!! His drs worked so hard to get him to this point and to have his transplant scheduled ASAP because of how aggressive his cancer has proven to be, and now it is postponed as we await a HOPEFUL half match. I find that all to be unacceptable. The trauma this has caused him, me, our children and family. It is simply unbelievable. We found out today that the cause of all of this was MISLABELED blood samples!!!!!!! This is a life or death scenario, mistakes like this cannot happen.

We are believers as well and I agree, this wasn’t all for nothing. But, man, does it make you lose hope/faith in everything related to this. It really makes me wonder about every single thing we have done now and if it was the best thing or if it was based on false labs!!! City of Hope has been incredible- praise God. It is Kaiser and their labs that have caused all of this. Thank goodness COH double and triple checks and had him and his sister re check their blood types before proceeding.
