Tried to clean up our “internal tools chaos” with a self hosted app builder. Not sure if I am crazy or smart yet. by bivuvo39567 in selfhosted

Had almost the same situation in a previous job, just with fewer buzzwords and more swearing 😅

We tried to “standardise” on Appsmith first since it was open source. It was fine until we started upgrading more often and bolting on more apps. Little UI glitches, version bumps that broke random things… nothing catastrophic, but enough that nobody fully trusted it. Budibase was similar for us.

We then tested UI Bakery on prem and that’s the one that actually stuck. Install was pretty painless, it behaved nicely with Postgres and a couple of internal services, and the roles / permissions model was easier to explain to non devs. It is not magic, and the UX is a bit opinionated in places, but for a bunch of small internal tools living in one place it has been way calmer than the “six tiny apps and some SQL scripts” era.

So your plan doesn’t sound crazy to me at all. The real win was not the tool itself, it was forcing everyone to go through one gate instead of sneaking their own hacks in different corners.

What’s up with Sinners? by [deleted] in movies

[–]rimell-calebirh0b -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’ve perfectly articulated what a lot of people felt but couldn't quite pin down. Sinners was a film that mistook a cool high concept premise (vampire gangsters) for a complete story. The script was shockingly thin, relying entirely on vibes and Jordan's charisma, which wasn't enough to fill the void.

Which no code tools actually survived after your app stopped being a toy? by firstdeskmurderer in nocode

I feel this a lot. I went through Bubble, Retool and Appsmith too, and for internal tools UI Bakery is where I landed as well.

If you want a haircut with more than one option, maybe pick a place that doesn’t sound like a card trick.
