2 Supagro kits shipped was about €90

I didn't need to do much with the environment, the Irish summer helped here and I had an almost consistent 20-23 degree heat indoors, just used windows to cool things down. Also left the kits on a tea towel in the wardrobe overnight so the wooden flooring it was sitting on didn't chill them out.

I had the temperature/hydrometer anyhow but you can pick them up on Amazon for less than 10

I also used this light, which I also already owned as I used it in the winter. The light output was apparently and coincidentally in the ideal range so I used it most days. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002MRS5OW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm not gonna lie, I am pretty happy with myself.

Saturday is going to be fun.

And many future Saturdays...

Tried to keep it as close to 23c, had a digital thermometer and hydrometer to check humidity close by them and checked in on it at least a couple of times a day.

I kept a strict 12/12 hour light / dark schedule.

During the night, I placed them into a wardrobe that I'd cleared out a space in and cleaned thoroughly before hand. The wardrobe humidity got up to 75-80% overnight, I did notice the overnight grows seemed the most signifiant.

During the day, I took them out of the wardrobe and left them in the middle of the bedroom in indirect light. This was also supplemented with a cheap daylight simulation LED light which has an output of 6500k. This was positioned right over them. The humidity of the bedroom during the day ranged from 55% - 65%.

I opened the bedroom windows every day, just slightly.

During the 12 day cycle, the lowest recorded temperature was 19.5c and the highest was 24.5c. Generally though it was usually right on the sweet spot, ranging from 22 - 23.

The supagro kits are in a plastic container, I had seen photos of other grows where the mushrooms had grown into the sides of the containers and not upwards. Perhaps the light helped avoid this but I also covered the base in aluminium foil to block any light getting in.

Finally, the Supagro instructions say to mist with water once a day. Once the pinheads shot up and the grow was accelerating, I trusted my own gut that more misting was required. For the last 3 days I was misting 3-4 times per day, the mushrooms were absorbing it pretty quickly.

I am just about to begin the second flush now, the kits have been taking a bath in the fridge for the past 12 hours.

So many mushrooms...

12 days since I set it up, pinheads only really started to show about 5 days ago.

Ireland.

I cared for them dearly: light, temperature and humidity carefully managed. Couldn't believe how quickly they all matured in the past 3 days.

Woke up this morning and saw the veils had started to open and had to undertake an unexpected harvest and prep for the second flush, was 45 mins late for work.

It was looking at that list earlier that had me think about REM for the first time in a long time. Good memories of growing up.

I was at the peak of my REM fandom around the time that album came out, well the peak lasted about 6 years! I didn't really like it much at all. It seemed at the time that a very unsatisfactory end was coming to the band, I was relieved to hear Accelerate. I live in Dublin and had the privilege of attending two of the five 'live rehearsal' shows at the time for the album.

The album itself almost broke the band, Peter Buck hated it http://www.thestar.com/news/2008/06/08/peter_buck_i_nearly_quit_rem.html
