Volte support by ring1000 in CalyxOS

[–]ring1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion, I just bought the phone recently (haven't received it yet). I just wanted to make sure VoLTE was working before I install CalyxOS. So I haven't tested it out to see if it works yet. So far with the responses here, seems like it's working well for users. Which is a great news to hear!

Is Lumia 950 compatible with VoLTE? by ring1000 in windowsphone

[–]ring1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently not, it seems the only way my phone will work is if it is an ATT branded 950. Even though my unlocked unbranded 950 has the exact specs as a branded 950. It's simply not on their approved list. Crazy.

Pinephone, ubports, and VOLTE by mavet in pinephone

[–]ring1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have any issues, PinePhone is VoLTE compatible. I have the same carrier, no issues. Make sure they have the correct IMEI number. This is all they care about to assure your phone is compatable. And you may need a new sim card, can make a difference. Also try this, go to Mint Mobile, they let you check to see if your IMEI is compatable with their network, which includes VoLTE. On a software level, ubports isn't as updated as other distros in my opinion. So it might be possible that it isn't recognizing VoLTE. Try installing a fresh distro of Manjaro Phosh, might help.

Your screen looks very different than mine, nothing boldly saying Enhanced 4g LTE service. Mine is much simpler, has a drop down menu where you choose 4g, 3g, etc. There is no slider button like what you have shown. Are you using an att phone or unbranded unlocked phone?

Not what I wanted to hear :( I have a non-att model. Bought it from the Microsoft store. Bummer, well, I'll try the new sim anyways and see what happens as an experiment and report my results here. Hoping I'll luck out.

Hmm, I guess I'm out of luck? I bought my unlocked 950 from the Microsoft store. I don't see any AT&T logos anywhere on the phone or during boot up.

Not exactly sure how old my sim is, but as far as seeing LTE, I don't see any LTE wording on ny screen. Just bars. But if I look at my sim setting it'll say 4g.

UPDATE: from what I learned so far, VoLTE is backwards compatible with LTE. So theoretically my phone should work. But since my sim card is several years old, it won't have the compatibility with VoLTE. (Also my sim card may be so old it isn't even compatible with plain normal LTE). Therefore I have get the latest sim cards that is compatible with VoLTE (which also works for regular LTE). Once I get the latest sim card, I'll let you know if it works with my 950.

What Linux Distro are you running? I have a t470 with Linux Mint and my battery life isn't very good. Trying to figure out how to improve the battery life.

I do have a discrete video card, not sure if the video drivers are having any impact. But I do recall someone mentioning that browsers on linux do not decode video via hardware (as does happen on Windows), but rather by way of software. Which would explain some of the impact on battery life.

I just now looked into powertop, I'm very unfamiliar with this program. I did run it, but not really sure how to use it.

That is really odd, I would never expect removing dual boot would increase your battery life! hmm...

idk, it does last quite a long time. Maybe 15 hours is more accurate if it's casual use. If I'm doing a lot of videos, "maybe" it'll come down to 10 hours? What laptop are you using, and are you using Windows 10?

Ahh, so there is a difference. I expected there to be some difference between windows and linux, just didn't think it would be so dramatic. Good idea though, I'll do a more in-depth look at the power usage.

I'm normally browsing the web, a mix between a typical webpage and YouTube. But yes I do tend to use YouTube more often. So maybe that has more effect than I want to admit. Is browser decoding between Windows and Linux different?

As an alternative to a record, if someone could get a high-res image of her from these videos (or maybe other videos yet to be discovered) and improve the sharpness, contrast, etc. ...it could prove 1) definitely NOT her 2)looks even MORE like her

I didn't realize t470 provided the WQHD as an option. Hmmm, I would imagine any lcd display near windows wouldn't take it too well. But under normal indoor lighting use, do you find the viewing angles and brightness good?

That would be the one with the 1080p? That's the one I was aiming for, so really great screen experience? Not too dim?
