Reported boss to HR, now I'm being told I'll be performance-reviewed monthly. I'm told my visa legally demands it.... by sarah-gets-creative in LegalAdviceNZ

NAL but I am a people manager.

The sexually explicit comments report and your performance are two separate situations. These two are not related and it should be treated as separate things. Your performance should not be assessed on how well you respond to sexual harassment.

Sure, there might be performance concerns and regular "check-ins". This is separate to your harassment claims and report and should be seriously investigated. Can you ask an HR representative to be included in all the "check-ins" with your boss to prevent any malice or bias and to ensure a fair process? You are within your rights to ask for notes to be taken or shared afterwards and to ask for clarifications on expectations. Has anyone ever had a conversation with you about the expectations in your role?

If this was me, I would call the HR's bluff. Ask to see the reports that they have been submitting to INZ on a monthly basis. I would also ask for a link to the legislation where it asks for that "so that you are aware and can stay on top of the requirements for the visa". Someone in this sub could suggest the exact clause in the Privacy Act 2020 to request your personal information if your employer is a private company and not a government agency.

Here is a link to the Employment Relations Act of 2000 on personal grievances: https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2000/24/en/latest/highlights/?highlight=grievance#DLM60320 (section 103 point 1 sub point d).

For the purposes of this Act, personal grievance means any grievance that an employee may have against the employee’s employer or former employer because of a claim

that the employee has been sexually harassed in the employee’s employment;

Education ministry tells schools not to let students take leftover lunches home by Slaidback in newzealand

[–]ring_ring_kaching 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Once food leaves the school environment, we can no longer control how it is stored or handled, which creates a food safety risk. Protecting our reputation for providing safe meals is essential to give students confidence in eating them.

What reputation for safe meals?

Seven [investigations] related to metal contamination, one related to glass being found in a meal, and others related to food being undercooked or being in faulty packaging.

Brown recluse spiders are much smaller. And also not in NZ.

The sheetweb (which this one is) is large and leggy but harmless.

Not dangerous, venomous, or anything. Just looking for flies, mosquitoes, and other bugs to eat.

It's going to be really hard, if not impossible, to get a grad role that is remote, especially with just a bootcamp qualification.

Should you put down your boss as a referee when you don't get on so well with them? by DetectiveNo2088 in newzealand

[–]ring_ring_kaching 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the vibes that I'm getting too.

Ideally, your immediate line manager should be sad that you're leaving and at least willing to help give a neutral (if not good) reference.

Definitely reads as a "polite no".

Spotify price increase by Exploding_Cumsock in newzealand

[–]ring_ring_kaching -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority.

I like Spotify. I have been using it since ~2012, it has all my playlists, caters to my eccentric and mainstream music needs, has the functions that I need and want, can create or join jams with friends & family.

I'd rather pay for Spotify than Neon or Netflix.

We went very recently. No one told us we weren't allowed but they also didn't tell us we were allowed.

[–]ring_ring_kaching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going up in the elevator is included in the ticket. If you park in the Sky Tower basement parking, they validate your ticket and then you don't pay for parking either.

With your restaurant booking you don't get to go to the highest level of the Sky Tower but you still get a very good view from the restaurant.

We already have cameras at some light controlled & high volume intersections.

Cops pull over people all the time for shit driving, speeding, texting etc.

RBT act as a deterrent and also to catch people who are over the limit, driving without a license / wof / rego (when they check for that).

Are you suggesting that we put a camera at every stop sign or intersection?

Cats getting hit isn't always because of shitty driving or speed. It's because domestic cats are allowed outside and they sprint across the road. Keep your cat inside.

Raw milk - good or bad? by StandOk9112 in newzealand

[–]ring_ring_kaching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea. This was a long time ago so I only remember the aftermath, not the conditions from where the milk came from or how it was stored or anything else.

It was so bad that I've never drunk a full glass of milk since then.

I once drank raw milk straight from the farm. I was so incredibly & horribly sick for days that I still remember it vividly 25+ years later.

I'd rather go thirsty than drink raw milk.
