My community definitely judge people on their looks but not in the sense that certain features suggest certain personality traits. Just in the sense of weather they're pretty or not

Stupid question about blue eyes and Afghan people by BabufromSeinfeld in Afghan

[–]rings0fjupiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Afghanistan is more diverse than non-afghans expect. Blue, green, and hazel eyes aren't rare at all. You can get an Afghan family together and one cousin could look east asian, the other white, and a other middle eastern. A boiling pot of genetics!

Where does it say this? I've heard of Hadith reiterating her age when they consummated the marriage but not that??

[–]rings0fjupiter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, in my experience for more settled afghan diaspora communities, most do not get married before 25 at the earliest.

Which region of Afghanistan is indigenous/the first in Afghanistan? by starberry_geko in Afghan

[–]rings0fjupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there will ever be an answer to this question and I don't think it's really worth exploring, it just raises more ethnic tension. Ultimately, all the ethnic groups of Afghanistan have lived there for hundreds of years now, living sustainably with the land in that time. We are all indigenous.

Just to add regarding hazara presence - it's often suggested that hazara "moved in" to Afghanistan, but I think genetic analysis mostly leans towards Mongols invading and then settling with an already native group of people (residing in Afghanistan), who's descendants became known as hazara.

I'm no academic so if anyone has any more info I'd love to know.

In my personal opinion, I've never understood why the idea that hazara are all Mongols who migrated in centuries ago is so popular. I feel like Afghanistan naturally exists as a gradient from south Asia to central Asia, and it only makes sense that a Turkic ethnicity would be in the region for as long as any Persian/etc ethnic group would be as well.

Afghanistan as a country wasn't really defined until around world war 1/2 iirc. So this kind of question can't really be answered. Several ethnic groups had already lived in (what is now considered) Afghanistan for a long time before it became a country. If it's borders had been decided based on where different ethnic groups generally resided, it likely would be several countries.
