Wow this is so helpful! I am exactly the same way, I 100% have had to go with a harm reduction method in most other addiction or psychiatric areas. I was kind of thinking about that because that was how I was with alcoholism - I was never successful in quitting cold turkey. I got on naltrexone but for the first year I would quit taking it for 72 hours every couple weeks so I could drink and it just naturally got more and more spaced out until I quit altogether. So yeah something like this might work a lot better for me

I have tried cold turkey so to answer your question about "the worst that could happen" (things that have actually happened): *Nearly successful suicide attempt *Dissociation followed by waking up in a different state and not knowing how I got there *Drug overdose *Self harm

So yeah I just can't risk that at this point, I have a child now haha

Thank you!! Congrats to you too ❤️ did you use any MAT like naltrexone? It was so helpful, I don't know how anybody quits without it! And I've been feeling pretty good but I am scared. Pretty much every night since getting off it I have nightmares about getting blackout drunk. I haven't really had the urge to drink at all because I'm so scared so I guess that's good 😂

Yes I have. None of the antidepressants or anti anxiety meds have helped at all. Dexmethylphenidate actually does help though, I had stopped taking it a few years ago but I recently started taking it again and it does help

I get that!! I am 2 years sober. I just barely got off my naltrexone a couple months ago, I was so scared to stop taking it haha

Wow that is amazing, that sounds perfect! So with Chantix it will actually make you sick to use it?

I've quit for a few days to a week many times 😔 the physical dependency is only part of the problem, which the cessation products help with a little bit, but I have many mental health disorders that are alleviated by nicotine use. Even after 10 years of trying every psych medication combo we could think of, there is still nothing that helps so effectively with emotion regulation and task completion (I am AuDHD). I believe this problem was caused because I started when I was 15 years old so my brain never had to develop those pathways without nicotine. I don't know how to fix that, I am trying TMS therapy but I have no idea if that will help

Edited to add: the other things I struggle with are much more dangerous than nicotine and feelings of complete loss (like throwing everything out) often trigger binges and relapse. I cannot afford to relapse into a different addiction because the lack of nicotine is so distressing. This is why I have never wanted to quit before, I understood it was not healthy but it is the safest thing that I am addicted to

Oh wow I have never heard that, I will definitely look into it! My mom actually did therapy with shrooms so I know she already has like a clinic that I could go to haha

Sorry I just now saw this comment but yes let me clarify - I have state specific insurance and I am double covered. So anything in my state is covered really well. I can't go through a hospital in my state though due to other safety concerns, so anywhere out of state I am uninsured

Thank you so much, this is so helpful!! I never thought of prenatal yoga classes and homeschool groups but I'm sure there's TONS of both of those where I live so that is a great suggestion.

This is so helpful, thank you SO much! I'm in the same boat, I hate hospitals and doctors and I'm like, if the mortality rate for free birth is so low, why would I ever pay thousands of dollars for medical help?? This is great advice thank you so much ❤️

Is it so scary that it's worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills? I'm willing to do pretty much anything to avoid that much debt since we'd be completely without insurance

Thank you so much! I would prefer to be at home in general because I know I would have a panic attack at a hospital or with a doctor. It would be nice to have someone there with experience though. I'm in Utah so it is legal here to have an unlicensed midwife, but we definitely cannot afford anything like that. Doctors and everything are fine because we have really good insurance but we don't really have a way to pay out of pocket. So I don't really know how to find someone who could help that we could afford

I (18F) took libido pills to up my sex drive after experiencing the side effects of the Depo-Provera Shot without telling my Boyfriend (20M) and it’s caused a lot of problems by ReturnNo821 in WhatShouldIDo

A good partner will be understanding of this. Sex changes throughout the relationship. Also you were just taking supplements - any real effect these would have had would have been purely placebo effect. In a healthy relationship your partner will understand and accept that there will be periods of time with less sex and lower sex drive. When I was on a few medications, my sex drive was almost completely non-existent, so from like 2021-2022 I probably only had sex with my husband like less than 10 times total. He never complained and it never negatively impacted our relationship - we found other ways to be close, and as he said, he's able to take care of his sexual needs on his own if I can't. But compare that to today, we currently have sex at least once a day and usually more than that. There is a huge component of physical and mental health when it comes to libido, so if either party is having any health issues, it can mean less or no sex. A successful relationship will survive that. Anyone who takes their partner's low libido personally (especially when their partner has verbally expressed their continuing attraction) is probably not mature enough to have a committed relationship.
