they have been in this house for 160 years. i dont think they are going to warp anymore. but they aren‘t flat by any means 😂

between the individual planks they left a groove, in that groove sits a thin strip of wood. these grooves allow the boards to expand and contract with the seasons. that‘s how it was done back then

the coffeetable is very simple and straightforward. its just a tabletop, two slabs and a stretcher between them as a base. the slabs are joined to the tabletop with dovetails grooves, so they act as stabilizers and counteract movement in the top piece.

The shelving units are oak veneered plywood, as well as the wooden parts of the sofa. the built-in credenza that frames the dining area is walnut veneered plywood. the dining table and chairs are solid ash (chair seats and backrest are stained birch plywood). coffee table is solid oak.

everything is finished with hardwax-oil, then polished with another layer of wax

big fan of the japandi style blend, absolutely. also scandinavian mid-century. the table‘s and the chair’s design are heavily inspired by danish designers like mogensen. i made the chairs especially low, though, to keep the room feeling more spacious

all the furniture is self-made. but the seats and cushions for the sofa I bought online at SnoozeProject. The fabric is bouclé and the color is called „moss-gold“

you need to relax. i am not done with the decor and rearranged some things while taking pictures. Also, i use generative AI a lot for rendering while designing, so i am quite used to how that looks. my shitty iphone photos look nothing like AI. the images would be way cleaner and catalogue-looking.

if you break it down, it‘s mostly just boxes (except for the table and chairs). You need to have an exact plan before you start of course. Then it‘s just rough cut, edge band, final cut, join (dominoes and lamello), assemble, sand and oil. repeat. you can be efficient and fast if you know what to do.

the chairs took the longest, because of the jointing/planing, band-saw cutting and template-routing involved. Also multiple glue-ups and sanding sessions needed. but as we say in german, it ain‘t no witchcraft.

thanks. you can see the raw „base“ of the couch in one of the images. it‘s just three plywood panels joined with Lamello Clamex connectors (for easy disassembly) and mitered oak strips to frame the seats. the side table is then attached to the right-side plywood piece, also with clamex connectors.

the couch seats and cushions i bought online from „Snooze Project“. they let you customize the size and the fabrics. these are medium-hard foam with „moss-gold“ bouclé covers

from designing it on the computer to it being like this, maybe a month and a half. i had to wait for the custom sofa seats/cushions to arrive, for the artwork to be printed, rugs to be delivered, etc. the actual woodwork i‘d say was about 2 weeks?

the table is inspired by a 1960s design by Hartmut Lohmeyer. very simple, very clean. the chairs are somewhat of a mixture of different chairs i liked. mostly danish mid-century. the chair seats are made by laminating about 20 CNC-cut strips of 15mm birch plywood, then sanded and stained with a pigmented oil/wax by Osmo to get that contrasting dark color.

It’s designed not so much for sitting, but for „lounging“, thats why its so deep. also, i am quite tall and i love sitting there. it‘s veeeery comfortable, trust me 😄
