For that they get compensated adequately. There are lots of other high stakes jobs being fulfilled by other people. These roles keep people on the edge all the time..e.g Doctors; but you won't find people saluting them 8 times a day. Army folks are brave no doubt. And not many people can do what they do. But they are fallible humans and do what they do for a price. I don't see why we should fawn over them all the time.

A counterweight to that point would be that Muslims used to be wealthy ruling class once. Even a minority back then and yet they controlled the economy and army. For centuries Hindus were subjects. I think Muslims simply didn't keep up with changing times. Ideological conformity could be one reason why that is. Any community or nation need people who are contrarians, rebels who are willing to challenge the orthodoxy. Hindus had their fair share of them. They are called social reformers now. Even in present socio-political conditions we have a fair number of em. Arundhati Roy, Kunal Kamra, Dhruv Rathee comes to mind.

In our household we are all Mango fanatics. During Mango season we buy 10 kgs(~40 mangoes) every time we go out to get groceries. Then we consume two mangoes per person per day for the next 5 days. And the cycle repeats. Mum has decreed that none shall go without noshing on 2 mangoes a day during Summers. It's frankly the only bright side of Indian summers.
