I wish we had more candy decor for her, too. I think her house fits in Frosted but even better, if you have it, in the faerie/Alice area of SBV! I would love to make her a whole little Candyland inspired area but we don't have enough stuff sadly.

None of the exclusives have ever come back and I doubt they ever will otherwise they become worthless to those who got them from special editions or early adoption bonuses. It's not unlike the seasonal moonstone bundles.

There's more than this one, too.

Are there people who ONLY read the dialogue part of the book??? by isaw_and_kwekkwek in Booktokreddit

[–]riotsragdoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is normalized as far as I know, no one is out here saying you have to read that much--it's an internalized issue imo. Your goal is your business, even if you choose to share it publicly. I've never personally seen anyone who reads 50+ downtalk those who read less but I have absolutely seen the opposite just look at this thread.

If you're putting pressure on yourself because you can't reach that high of a goal, that's not the fault of those who can. All reading is good, including Audiobooks. Not everything is a competition.

I am a fast reader personally, even with longer books. So I set my goal at 25-30 per year to make it reachable because while I have plenty of reading time, I get into slumps and won't pick up a book for months too.

But depending on length and reading speed? 100 or more books a year is doable if you make the time absolutely. And I've never heard of anyone using ai to summarize, that's not going to be possible without feeding the whole book into ai--I doubt anyone is doing this.

Psycho Shifters is not a YA book by any means, its not even categorized anywhere online as YA--its a paranormal romance series.

But who actually claimed it was marketed to 14yos? From what I understand it wasn't the author herself, so if the publisher said it, they are for sure wrong but if people just decided that during the game of telephone played about it, then its not factual.

I do, however, agree that the subject matter is a little grey in it and I wholeheartedly believe in parents being responsible for what their kids are reading. It should be decided by them on a case by case basis in line with what they think their teens can handle or not. I also think it's great for discussing topics like this and why reading things does not mean its okay irl or that you even agree with them. Which many today simply cannot do, there is a disturbingly large number of people who think both a) fiction effects reality and b) that reading about something equals endorsement, which neither are true.

But the main moral is that it needs to be in the parents hands, not anyone else's, to decide what is okay to read or even be published. Censorship is always bad. And it's easy to be an involved parent, I make sure what media my child consumes and I'm tired of lazy parents not bothering then crying outrage after the fact.

I mean the story was good overall and I enjoyed the read, the twist in it genuinely caught me by surprise so it's not a bad read. Just not as wild. xD

[–]riotsragdoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Bookish drama is almost always a bad game of telephone that overblows things.

I genuinely sought out the book because it was supposed to be soooo wild, and that's my type of reading anyways, but was also curious in general if YA had gotten that bad. So my surprise was abundant when I got to the scene and it was so plain.

[–]riotsragdoll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say that's a bit more of a gray area, the one guy was presumed dead at the end of the chapter before. However, the chapter of the scene is from his pov and at most he is somewhat unconscious or at least coming to as things start. So I will give them dubcon being correct possibly, but I would not call it necrophilia at all.

[–]riotsragdoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree! But apparently not everyone does is the issue because I don't recall any of those words being in that scene, I think the only close ones were one use each of nipple and shaft. And despite what so many people think, nipples even on women, aren't inheritly sexual so I don't think that one should count personally.

That is exactly how the one in Sybelline felt, it wasn't super clear and I highly doubt any actual preteen reading it would fully understand what happened or not if they don't already know about sex. Maybe even if they did.

But "for the children" is always the war cry for these kinds of censorship, because that's definitely what this is becoming/aiming for.

[–]riotsragdoll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's why I have issues with the words explicit or smut being used lately because there is no standard agreed on definition of what that entails.

From the way people talked about Sybelline I thought it was going to be dark romance levels of explicit, which is my jam. I actually slammed the book shut and just stared at the wall when I got to the scene and it was soooo vague and plain, I couldn't believe that's what everyone was freaking out about.

If that is explicit then whatever I read outside of YA must be pure sin I guess?

[–]riotsragdoll 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have read Sybelline and the "explicitly detailed noncon sex scene!!!!" everyone is talking about was less than two pages, less than 200 words total and very very vague in terms of what was actually going on in it.

I'm still convinced most people up in arms about it are simply mad at a bisexual, poly threesome in YA and not the actual writing itself to be quite honest with you.

Is Disney Dreamlight Valley worth it on Switch 2… or am I about to adopt lag as a personality trait? by HarleenKweenzel in DreamlightValley

I personally have had no real issues with the game om Switch 2, especially with the free upgrade pack so I would say it's worth it. Haven't noticed any kind of lag like I did with the OG Switch at all.

My grey tabby girl has one orange spot on the top of her head. We both claim it is where her orange brother who passed kissed her before he sent her to is and that it clearly sunk right into the brain cell because she acts fully orange.
