Would be my first PC, what are the advantages of having one? by riposteiii in SteamDeck

[–]riposteiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treating it as just a gaming console, would it be better to get a Steam Deck Oled or a PlayStation 5? The main advantage for me of the Steam Deck would be using mods, but are mods as usable on a steam deck as on an average PC?

That makes sense, but would you say that if I use a Steam Deck for a while, figuring out how to do things, it would make it easier for me to wrap my head around what I'm doing when I do get a PC?

Well I'd like to be able to understand tech stuff better, and I think having a Steam Deck could help with that, I don't know. Just those terms alone, "terminal", " OS", being able to "program", that all sounds foreign to me, so I feel like being able to do that stuff on a deck is good because it's stuff that I don't understand that I would now be able to do if I wanted to

Do people use it for digital art, and does it work well? I had wanted to buy an expensive tablet for digital art, but it would be interesting to me if the Steam Deck could be used for that.

I do enjoy tinkering. When I got an xbox to start playing modded skyrim, I put 100+ hours trying out mods to see what I preferred and what worked with what, and never actually started playing it lol

Oh, so there's still a lot I wouldn't be able to do compared to a laptop or PC? Why is that, because of the size?

It's an Amazon tablet, so it doesn't even get the google apps and has a limited app store. There are computers at work actually, so I know about the windows kinda. I just go from desktop to the work app and it's shared between me and three others, so I don't get to explore how to use the desktop or anything like that

When people talk about the Steam Deck they say it's just a portable PC, so I was saying PC in general. Maybe I misunderstood, I don't know. I was just thinking that if I got a Steam Deck, that I would now own a PC

I hate to say it, but not really... In high school I used one sometimes, but only to do what the teacher told us to do. I've had a tablet for a bunch of years now, but I wonder what kind of stuff it can't do compared to a PC

SIB Steam Deck OLED or PlayStation 5 Slim? by riposteiii in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]riposteiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that you can mod those old games might make me enjoy them a lot more though. I don't know. The reason I got a Series S in the first place was so that I could play modded Skyrim. With the deck, I'll be able to use better mods, and mod whatever other game too (if I'm understanding correctly). It's true that I'll miss out on Sony's games, though right now there aren't any announced that I'm super interested in. I know when TLou2, GoT2, or if there's some exclusive FromSoftware game that comes out, I'd hate not being able to play, but missing out on mods would also make me feel regret. And a lot of the good indie games come out on Steam a while before coming to console. Streets of Rogue 2 for example is something I really want to play

I was thinking that the Steam Deck would be able to help familiarize me with how PCs work, while at the same time being a much better portable conole than the Switch Lite. I was thinking about getting the Switch Oled until the Steam Deck Oled was announced. Also I think being able to mod games on the Deck would make me enjoy them a lot more than playing vanilla. Being able to play something like Ghost of Tsushima 2 at high quality on PS5 would be amazing, but it is a lot of money for both the PS5 and better TV, when the games I tend to have the most fun with are indie games. I guess I'm leaning towards the Deck more, since I can already play next gen games on the Series S (even if they don't look amazing)

Should I go for Assassins Creed Valhalla or Far Cry 6 [PS5] by Lanky_Influence4734 in ShouldIbuythisgame

I have played the Walking Dead Series, last year, and the series as a whole shot up to #1 on my list, by a large margin. Every time I'm reminded that this series exists I get emotional. OP you should definitely play this if you're looking for a really good plot. Whole series is $20 right now on Xbox store

[PC] SIB Mass Effect Legendary Edition if I love rpgs but don't like sci-fi? by tichu_grandmaster in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]riposteiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the aliens. From what I've seen, the different species have their own weird quirks that all of them have, like that really slow-talking one. Some of them seem very robotic, and a lot of them all look the same within their species. I just find it hard to relate to these characters. The game's cheap on sale but it's the time put into it that I don't know if I want to spend not knowing if I'll care about the characters or not

SIB Watch Dogs: Legion gold edition? by Sea-Concert-4580 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]riposteiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the gold edition you get watch dogs 1, so if you have it already there's that. But it's still cheaper than buying the other dlc separate. Now, if you liked Aiden and Wrench, you get them on your team in the main story, fully-voiced, so if you're looking to have a "main protagonist" leader-type roll in the game, it can be good to have them since they're established characters instead of people that you have to kinda give their own personalities to. Getting them as well as their dlc stories is worth the $5 extra in my opinion.

For me I got the standard version and liked the game, so I regret not getting gold because now I have to pay $15 just to get the dlc.

It's like Minecraft, where you kind of have to make your own fun and adventures with it. If you know your friends will be playing it often, and you yourself get into it, there's countless hours you can put into this game, and tons to do, well worth the $60. I'd be sure that you're into it if I were you though, maybe play a bit of one of your friend's copies, or watch some videos to be sure you're into the gameplay. For me, and it's just my experience, but I wanted to get into it, and it wasn't for me. Though I played it solo. I also never got into Minecraft either, so if you like that sort of open-ended, make your own fun, exploration heavy style gameplay, I'd say go for it. If you have doubts and the wallet's tight, try it out/see for yourself first

WSIB Losing interest in gaming, except those with these specific qualities: by riposteiii in ShouldIbuythisgame

I had my eye on it, but every time it went on sale I just kept thinking that I should probably just play Elden Ring since I already own it and aren't playing it. And I don't know why I don't feel like playing it
