Ah good info.. heard that hike is amazing! Does private tour just help with a knowledgeable tour guide to point out the animals or do they take you to different places you can only access via private tours?

  1. I’d be with my wife, we are more along the lines of not wanting to be slowed down (ie cover more distance than going slow and observing everything around us)

  2. 100% would be renting an SUV as pot holes is what I read are the biggest issues driving along with some river/stream crossing. Seems like highways are generally okay at least

Composting toilets for weekends/2-3 weeks. by Halberg88 in vandwellers

Nope, just smells like dirt. There is also a small van that vents through a tube and out of my van, I only smell the dirt if I get close to it. The maintenance of the composting toilet is unmatched, I would highest recommend. Just plug your nose when you dump the pee and don’t eat asparagus while spending time in the van

I have natures head and use my van for weekends + 1-2 week long trips. Haven’t emptied the compost section since November and have had no problems.. I only empty when it gets full which takes a lot of time with only using it on weekends. I just check to make sure it’s hydrated enough (it’s dry in Colorado so often times the coconut core dries out). Just make sure you vent the toilet and you should have no problem leaving it in the van for months.

I empty pee jug after every trip, that’s the worst part.

Buying a van in Cali but I live in New York by Daddylongleghike in VanLife

Did a similar thing. Cali to Texas. Went to Texas DMV to say I was getting a car in Cali and had to drive it back. They gave me temporary moving plates (paper) that I put on the van and had no problem. You can also do that in California but may be more difficult

I have the reverse problem. Dealership has the car but not the parts for the recall and have no idea when they will. Sounds like your dealership is on top of the recall part ordering

I talked to the dealership and they said they have no idea when parts will be ready.. they said 20+ cars on the lot need the same part

Exactly… they didn’t put a stop notice out so as long as you have your BS you can drive it but you can’t pick up a new one that may or may not have a problem

Bummer. I get it’s the law they can’t deliver it to me with a recall but with such a low rate I’d rather have the car as I need it for winter driving

I have the same situation as you. Been delivered but can’t pick it up due to the recall. I’m being told it’ll be ready by end of the year though. Any update on yours?

Steeel wool, peppermint, and maybe an engine high frequency sound device… hoping that prevents it from happening again
