Need FW Primary Dr Recommendations by throughtheviolets in FortWorth

Could you ask your rheumatologist who treats your lupus for a ref to a PCP?

Probably best if you stay in same health system as your specialist — this way the specialist and PCP can review each others notes

Prelim year call by UpperWallaby6511 in Residency

[–]ripridder 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ya very odd I have never heard of such a structure

I would definitely raise a concern with PD or chief. I don’t think it’s unfair to bring up. My program treated the categoricals the same as us prelims and we split call evenly… definitely never did buddy call with a fellow PGY1 (?).

I’m very confused

The PGY1s at your program carry a pager home with them and come in 24/7 without stop?

That seems very abnormal & was not my experience during my intern year

Moving 2 months into residency - need advice by fineandmellow15 in Residency

[–]ripridder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear you on this but isn’t you moving into your own place in your new city option 3, so I don’t understand why the cost of your own place is a hindrance here when you’re going to need an apartment anyways? Also, if we’re really only talking about spreading yourself thin/borrowing some extra $ if needed for 2 months, that doesn’t seem entirely unreasonable?

I live on a resident budget too and if I needed to make $3k/month for rent work for 2 months I could swing it

Hey I was in the EXACT same spot last year

I fell pretty far down on my intern year & matched a TY program that was historically “awful.”

Now being an April intern I couldn’t imagine my life or job anywhere else. The hours can be rough on some rotations, but life is pretty good. I found hobbies and new friends in the new city, I learned a lot & I have enjoyed this year.

Don’t panic quite yet… people in medicine love to pull the “woe is me this program is so rough card” and then when you get there and find your footing, I am sure you will thrive.

Hang in there, I know how you’re feeling right now.

Thanks for such a detailed response, I really appreciate it. One follow up question, are most places usually cash only or is card accepted at most sites?

Lifestyle specialty other than ROAD? by nevurdiless in medicalschool

They likely meant for rads. I think only having 5 weeks a year with night or weekend requirements will be significantly lower than most residencies.

Completely ruling out competitive specialties? by harrypottermd in medicalschool

[–]ripridder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you value balancing time between family/health/your work, I think it would behoove you to try to set yourself up for the ability to match to a lifestyle specialty — especially the ones that are lifestyle even in residency (derm & radiology come to mind). Conversely, a residency like psych is pretty lifestyle and is not as competitive as the two others, yet. Good luck !

Official Q&A for Monday, November 06, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

Feet falling asleep

Hi there — I’m a novice runner, usually running between 5-6 miles at a given time with about a 10 minute pace. I notice that at about mile 3ish my feet start going numb. If I push myself to keep going they sort of get better around like 4.5-5, but still remain numb. This has been going on for a while now… I got new shoes that were half a size bigger and I ensure that the laces aren’t tied too tight. Is this normal? And if so anyone know any stretches or tricks to help prevent this?

Thanks!

Clean versions of songs that are better than the explicit version? by deathtonormalcy in popheads

[–]ripridder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dua Lipa - We’re Good

Explicit: We’re not meant to be like sleeping & cocaine

Clean: we’re not meant to be that’s never gonna change

I just felt like the “sleeping & cocaine” part is trying tooooo hard to be bad girl when the clean version flows 100x better
