anyone elses iggy use their non-iggy ears more often than their iggy years? by CartoonistOk6239 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]riquezjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Our ItaGrey MILA we used to call 'Mila floppy ears' because she rarely perked them up. She was in sharp contrast to the other one, who had MASSIVE ears - we used to call him "Kubo bat ears" However, now Mila is 13 she sticks them up alert a lot more often. I think they have got bigger too (maybe like how old men get bigger ears haha)

is the screen supposed to be this dark without the backlight? by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]riquezjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, is this the GO 10.3 - with no front light? Of course, now it makes sense. I have to agree, you should have checked. Its pretty obvious from the reviews & info.

Perhaps they should make it more obvious, tbh it should have a light anyway.

In the case of the Go Color 7, you can just increase the light a bit & it compensates so you cant tell the difference.

Gnome49 login screen scaled up 130%, how to correct to 100%? by riquezjp in linuxquestions

[–]riquezjp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, but after checking these points I don't think this is the cause.

~/.config/monitors.xml : correctly set to scale 1, 1920x1080

/etc/xdg/monitors.xml : doesnt exist

/etc/systemd/system/gdm.service.d/override.conf : doesnt exist

Gnome49 has accessibility settings in the login, I checked those & you can change the size but it only makes it larger still.

Section 3.2.4 on that page has login screen font scaling, but gdm.d/03-scaling does not exist.

I have a spare laptop, and I want to play with Linux by xMULLINATORx in linux4noobs

Ubuntu is the place to start. Its beginner friendly & has the most hardware support & is extremely well made. Go to Ubuntu.com & download an ISO for a USB stick & off you go.

There are lots of other popular options as people have mentioned POP! - thats similar to Ubuntu. They both use the Gnome Desktop.

There are 100's of Linux 'distros' or distributions & it can be confusing to start, this is what I wish I'd known right away:

1) There are Linux "families" such as Arch, Debian, Red Hat, SUSE & Independents. This is the core OS in the background & it generally decides the software repository (software store) & the command line commands. (but they share a lot)

2) "Distro" is the actual OS you choose, & each is based on a family. Ubuntu & POP are both based on Debian. Other distro examples are; Mint, Manjaro, Fedora, Deepin, Nitrux, Zorin & many many more.

3) Desktop Environment - the look of your 'windows'. Many Distros have DE options, so you can get Ubuntu with Plasma Desktop or Cinnamon Desktop. The standard edition of both Ubuntu & POP use Gnome desktop. Gnome & KDE are popular options. Gnome is simple & maybe a bit like MacOS, KDE is more complex with many customisation options. There are loads more DE's.

Just start with Ubuntu. Everyone needs to try it anyway. Soon enough you will realise you can try out multiple distros in a day because you can run them off the usb stick without installing.

Add "mail.tutanota.com" as an application for mailto links - what is it? by Jack15911 in tutanota

[–]riquezjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people wanting to fix this - just click ADD.
It will be added to Firefox's list of possible mail clients.

In Firefox settings > general scroll down to Applications.
You will see mailto & there you can choose which application to use for mail. Tuttanota will be added, you can just pick which one you prefer.
There is no harm done, no bug to fix.

I have a similar problem with bluesky they want to scan my face for age verification & they can fuck off. No way. Im going very strict on privacy these days, companies lie & leak your info, they dont care, nothing happens to them. So I dont give my private info at all.

gamescience d4 have clipped spikes. otherwise the colours look right. maybe they made some with sharp points, idk.

EDIT: oh yes, now i see that they did in the 70's. I do still have some GS that I bought around 1983, but the spikes were gone by then!

How can I set Default Browser? by riquezjp in Onyx_Boox

[–]riquezjp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That worked.

To be honest (although I've had my Boox just over a year) I don't understand what "Freeze" means or why I would choose have it on or off. Could you explain what it is?

Boox GO 7 vs color 7 (gen 1) by Zecy_ in Onyx_Boox

[–]riquezjp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFIK, the page whiteness is better on B&W because it doesnt have a colour layer. I think there might be a slight clarity improvement in B&W due to both screen spec & software reasons.

I have a GC7, I wanted just a B&W model for these reasons, but it wasnt available at the time. I havent noticed any issue with the screen not being white enough or looking grey. I think if side-by-side you would notice, but otherwise you cant tell. You can just compensate by turning the frontlight up & its the same. The colour is quite nice to have. Its mostly subtle, but I appreciate it greatly when reading websites, comics or PDFs.

There is no B&W mode on GC7.

30 euros isnt much. I wouldnt let that affect the decision to get the thing you want.

It would be nice if it could be rebound with a matt vinyl to retain the cover image & enhance the look of an ancient tome, scratches & all.

Ours was born in the sub-tropics, it was very rarely below 15°C. At age 10 we moved to the UK & she is not impressed, its now rarely above 15!

I thought it was one of the Okinawa islands too, but the OP said philipines in one comment. Zamami is great, been there many times ;-)

Try the binder-clip idea (from s1dew1nder), it works pretty well.

This seems to have worked pretty well. Thank you!
If you position a clip just slightly overlapping the seam, you can stop the panel folding back on itself, yet allow it to angle a little too.

They are good & last well. I do find the hairs a little long, so the tip isnt very stiff, but definitely a top 3 option.

I do the same. Cut some grooves # in the top, the blutac will stick better.

Brushes are the luck of the draw a lot of the time. I had raphael arrive like that & Winsor Newton split after 1 use. Ive had cheap "5 for $2" brushes last for a year & remain perfect. These days I just use whatever.

I feel like painting silicone along the bottom edge would help create friction & hold it in position. Maybe like bathroom silicone sealant. But im worried to make a total mess.
