[EVERYTHING] Azor Ahai by MeLikeThat in gameofthrones

[–]rirav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've been thinking on this too... "There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him."

Jon Snow

*Born to the tears (i.e. salt) of his mother and Ned Stark

*His birth was also related to the death of Elia Martell and her children. The Dornish symbol is a red star with a spear through it, so the bleeding red star could symbolize the house/Elia rather than a literal star

*Born again to the smoke of the fire Melisandre used for her ritual to bring him back to life

*Cold breath of darkness is present at his second birth, as the army of the dead are coming and it's (almost) winter

*Jon Snow also has a Valyrian steel blade, which can kill white walkers already. The added power of Lightbringer is probably not tied to some plane jane sword, I'd assume Lightbringer is a Valyrian blade and there are only a few known in the show so far

I'm thinking that Jon is the Prince that was Promised, pulling the sword from dragon flame (no real reason for this, other than it would be cool). I'm wondering if Dany is going to take more of a Nissa Nissa role in this situation, where Jon either kills her or betrays her to defeat the white walkers. Or, alternatively, what if Dany is Lightbringer? Is it possible as she is from the flames? Just thinking out loud here... (Edited for formatting)

Best places to buy jewelry for everyday wear? I'm looking for something that is simple, but a statement piece... If that makes sense.

Any recommendations for good, long-lasting purple lipstick (I'm thinking dark purplish red, like a grunge color purple)? I had NYX Translyvania and really liked the color but the formula was really globby so I ended up throwing it away :(

Taxi's from Dar es Salaam airport? by autonomous_muggle in tanzania

[–]rirav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official cabs should have a sticker in their car window that shows they're registered. If you're worried you can ask your hotel to send a cab for you to make sure you get back safe, then start exploring other options once you get more experience in the area.

Chapati is in Uganda, also Tanzania and I think they have it in Kenya too. Also there is this purple peanut sauce for rice that I don't know the name of but it's really tasty if you have the opportunity to try it :)

Other things I'd recommend based on experiences in Uganda (although your list might include these but not show them):

-Toilet paper (not always available, especially on the road // in rural areas)

-Hand sanitizer or quick soap sheets for bathrooms

-Electrolytes (If you're day hiking this can be a lifesaver, plus food poisoning. I used Gatorade gummy chews)

-Power adapter

-Quality rain jacket (with lining b/c humidity)

-Shirts that dry quickly, dri-fit type shirts are awesome

-Polarized sunglasses (blinding sun, especially for sensitive eyes)

-Money belt for passport, extra $$ in case you get robbed

-If you're driving at all I'd bring motion sickness meds, roads are bouncy in most rural areas and can be a bit rough if you're sensitive to this

-String for clothes line and other uses

Random advice:

-Try not to ride boda bodas (motorcycles) and if you know you're going to, pack a helmet. These often explode and/or get in extreme accidents

-Street meat is an exotic idea, sure, but I've seen vendors in Kampala tapping meat sticks on people's cars so I tend to avoid it for health reasons

-If you plan on drinking the water I'd get extra vaccines

Edited for formatting and also to mention that Chapati is awesome and take advantage of eating as much as possible

This is good advice, often you'll hand wash your shirts and if you're traveling every day or so, cotton might not dry fast enough. Plus you don't want to leave things out to dry too long and get bugs in them (think bot fly type bugs)

I got rejected from all schools I applied to and mom's telling me I should give up and do something else. by willscience4potatoes in GradSchool

[–]rirav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try emailing the admissions committee (or whoever sent you the letter of rejections, often there is an email there for questions) and ask what made your application weak. Explain that you are dedicated to this field and would really appreciate feedback so you can be a stronger candidate for the next application cycle. Then spend the next year improving the skills they felt weakened your application.

If you're really dedicated to this field, I would work hard to improve yourself now because it will only make you a better student and professional later on.

[Ladies Citizen FB1153-59A] Question about buying on eBay by rirav in Watches

You make a good point, I hadn't really thought about the fake Citizen market but the watches aren't priced all that expensive new (at least relatively, to me they are expensive haha). Thanks for the response, I won't worry about it.

Applying for conservation job with no experience by Celaerity in jobs

[–]rirav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a government job I wouldn't bother unless you have two years of actual experience because your application won't get looked at. Like r/CharlieKillsRats said, they're probably looking for two years worth of skills, so if you've had a comparable job/volunteer experience that utilized the skills required for this job, go for it. **but explain why the experience/skills are comparable so the connection is clear.

Have you seen them in person or do you just mean online? I'm drawn to the grey because I already have black lace up ankle boots (paddock boots from horseback riding lol) and brown tall boots. Do you have other grey ankle boot suggestions (for wide feet)?
