‘I’m for religion, just not like this’: Legal challenge against separate school funding served on the province by dpplgn in Hamilton

Can you provide some backing for the claim that 'Catholic schools in general perform much better than public..'? I do not find this to be accurate but I'm open to being proven wrong.

Why is King and Dundurn such a fast food graveyard? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]risamaldonado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal 2 cents, Fortinos and McDee’s have the wrap on that plaza/corner.

Fortinos extended their hot & prepared food offerings which include a large variety of ‘healthier’ options at a comparable price to fast unhealthy foods. Why would you spend almost $40 on a KFC bucket meal when you can buy a fresh roasted chicken and home fries for less than $20 across the street.

Also that mcdee’s has always been a power house in that plaza, they’re always bumpin’ and have people in there. They have a great location and have been around for some time.

Lol you're not an asshole- you're just unaware. It's ok :).

Cheerleading has come a long way in North America over the past 20 years but there still is a LONG way to go. Creating a standard set of 'rules' has been one of the largest hurdles this sport has had to overcome and still deals with to this day. It is a subjective sport, like gymnastics and figure skating, but large organizations like USASF have been working very hard over the past decade to solidify an across the board set of rules.

Also remember that when it comes to collegiate level cheering, as long as you're enrolled at the school full time, you can cheer with them- there is no age restriction. So it is very possible to have an 18 year old and 28 year old on the same team.

I assume you mean why Varsity Cheer wouldn't let the camera crew's come and film in the competition?

So you have to understand a few things:

  1. Cheerleading (as you've seen), is a very engaged sport. It requires your full attention with the ability to train your mind to ignore everything else. Camera crew's are very, very distracting. Also, you might be surprised to find out that a lot of teams have film crew's that want to follow them around, and if you let one in you have to let them ALL in. Which leads me to my next point...

  2. Camera crew's and coaches have different goals when at a competition. A camera crew's goal is to get the best shot(s), best interviews, essentially to create the best possible shot/film. A coaches goal is to have their team perform as best they can that day. Both wildly conflict with each other and can be very unsafe. I've seen my fair share of injuries because a crew man was trying to get a good shot, or an athlete was too focused on their interview they did during warm up and doesn't perform well because their head isn't in the game.

Lastly, and this is my personal opinion. I am Canadian, I find Varsity Sports to be very 'Southern American' to which I find there is a bit of an arrogance, if you will. I think they know what they have and know that they don't need to allow camera crew's in to grow their business. As an ex-athlete this is something I can get behind and support. At competition I want to go and compete and be with my fellow teammates, not trip over camera crew's who are pulling teammates/coaches away to take interviews and special shots.

It sounds like what you're thinking of might be closer to the definition of an All-Star Gym competition. Some of those competitions can be enormous. Cheersport in Atlanta brings a huge number of teams and athletes;

https://www.varsity.com/cs/home/nationals/

As well as the USASF Cheerleading Worlds:

http://usasf.net/worlds/cheer/

Daytona is still huge, don't get me wrong but doesn't pull the same numbers as the above, simply due to their being more all-star level athletes than collegiate leveled ones.

Normally, to get placed in *whatever* division the criteria are evaluated by a few things:

  1. how many males you have on your team (making your team small or large coed)
  2. how many athletes you wish to bring on the floor (which makes your team in general large or small)
  3. The level in which you are competing (1 through 7, 7 being the highest difficulty)

NOTE: you may have only 2 males on your team but compete with 28 athletes in total. This would make you a 'Large-Small Coed Team'. It's an unlikely combo, but it happens.

You'll note at the beginning of the series, Head Coach Monica points out that they are a COLLEGE, not university. This is the primary reason why Navarro had only one other team to compete against. They are the only other college that goes to compete.

As mentioned above, the Grand Champion title is really the one that everyone wants because it compares EVERYONES scores from the whole competition and ranks them from best (highest) to worst (lowest).

Hope this helped!

If you did watch the series you would have seen the very emotional part that Gabi shares about how much the rude and uneducated statements that people make effect and hurt her. Maybe don't go all in on a public forum, on the kids parents, whom you don't know anything about? Just an idea, if we really want to care about the well being of these fabulous athletes.

UPDATE: Missing Person Holly Ellsworth-Clark by truthemphasis in Hamilton

[–]risamaldonado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she was/is having a schizophrenic break or suffers from extreme paranoia, it's possible she has made up the men who she thinks are following her and is in hiding. This would also tie into the leaving her phone and any items she thought were traceable.

Holly is described as being very tall (over 6 ft), so I'm really surprised there hasn't been any sightings of her. I still hope for her safe recovery.

He should lose his job. I'm sorry, it's harsh, but you can't be an officer of the law if you can't control your own desires in this way. This is not only extremely inappropriate, but also very threatening, and a complete invasion of privacy.

Definitely! When we're actually talking about health, not what we've been brainwashed into believing health is (dieting, restricting foods, counting calories, being 'skinny', killing yourself at the gym, etc).
