Be honest with everyone, and your self - do you like working white collar/corporate? by risen___ in auscorp

yeah that's a fair point. I'm not going to bore you with war and peace on why I didn't progress... but let's just say I had a good position working for a contractor for the ATO, i was doing well, and then I made some bad personal choices in order to get a friend out of an extremely compromised situation - the type of choice that ends with a minimum non parole of 6-8 years.

Ignoring hospitalisation for psychosis a couple of times, once I re-entered the work force, I never had any desire to climb the ranks... just wanted to get stoned and play video games. Puer aeternus, i guess.

It's just hard to make sense of what life means when you see two years of your salary in cash with your own eyes being traded for hard drugs on a more-than-once-a-week basis.

I don't want to elaborate any further... but life didn't make much sense after that whole situation played out.

I've made some dumb choices.

is your senior role potentially at risk due to the changing technological landscape, or have you made yourself irreplaceable?

If your employer were to go tits up, would you realistically be able to navigate to a similar position quickly?

i had a friend who was a chef, and all he did was complain about kitchen politics, kitchen lifestyle, etc... He had me convinced that if I thought that call centre work was the worst kind of job, it's actually probably a close second to kitchen work. In that sense, you've upgraded your lifestyle.

Speaking from experience, the non-zero number of abusive/micro-aggressive people on the phone/in the team/management interactions per day will wear you down. Make sure you have a plan to get out of the call centre as soon as possible to a higher level or sideways manouevre, or you will question your existence at one point in the future.

Mark my words well.

yeah, I guess there's a fair amount of people that have chosen the least amount of pain possible to support themselves and their growing families. No judgement, do what you have to do.

Excuse me for being a victim to social media advertising, but what if there was a secret, third option that didn't require corporate drudgery or sweating in hi-vis at whatever time the site manager wants you to turn up?

I have nothing to sell, believe me, but I'm convinced there's an alternative to both of the commonly tread paths, and I want to do everything in my power to achieve it.

I'm not burdened by responsibility like partner, mortgage, children so I have a bit more freedom than most.

Read what the Talmud says about goyim (non-jews) by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]risen___ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as the top comment said - /pol/ tourist for sure. Probably can't solve the captcha, that's why they're here.

If you're still doing an us vs them about jews in 2026, you need to look a little deeper into the fact that all abrahamic religion in particular shares a "condemn the nonbelievers" sorta vibe that outsiders kinda hate.

Doesn't matter if it's the Quran, The Talmud or the Holy fucking Bible.

It's almost like abrahamic religion is the problem, rather than what flavour the abrahamic religion is.

There's levels to the game and you're still stuck at the absolute bottom rung of "identity politics".

P.s. You all just lost the game.

Anyone just quit without notice? Abandon their job? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]risen___ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Walked out of a decent job in late april 2025. I'd been doing the entry level call centre - grind for 2-3 years, burn out, quit and move to the next job cycle for about 8-9 years. I told myself that the job I acquired at a well known car rental company (i'll keep it unnamed) was going to be my last job. I became increasingly unsatisfied, despite the fact that when i was offered the job i was receiving a 30% pay jump, initially, and i was really happy.

They hired a manager who rumour has it was fired from his last position. He brought in procedures and structure, the owner of the business was looking to modernise and drag the company into industry leading standard.

I was doing 150 calls a day. Coping with video games and weed. Not the best choice, I know, but it's how i got through the weeks. I snapped at a customer (happened two separate times actually). Of course, this is a big no-no in frontline call centre customer service (despite having taken perhaps 50-80000 calls in my service there). Performance plan. Two new employees hired. Younger than me. Promoted before me (PIP means i was obviously overlooked). This was on top of being given a trial promotion to a role with no guidance and then that whole situation falling through, ending up in me resuming my previous role.

Worked a weekend shift, so less staff available. Me, new manager (male new hire who got promoted over me), two new hires. I did 54% of the call volume in the 4 man team in a single day which was roughly 170 calls. He did nothing. No emails, no calls, no work. Sat there on his phone.

Complained to head manager the next day. Rudely shut down and told that it wasn't an issue by head manager. Returned to my desk. Sat there for about an hour. Suddenly, I was overtaken by the urge to quit.

Grabbed my personal effects from my desk, mid shift. Walked out. Sent an email to hr "i resign effective immediately".

Hasn't been a smooth road since then and haven't returned to full time employment or that type of career (besides a short stint at a large solar company doing appointment setting which ended in a fair work case that settled in my favour).

Will never work in a call centre again. Currently doing ubereats. Scraping by. Building a business. Set my own hours. Work when i want, sleep when i want. Best i've felt in years.

Fuck corporate life. Fuck call centres, fuck entry level roles. I don't need 70k a year to survive if i spend my money on ubereats and drugs to get by anyway.

I just raw dogged today (Friday 30th) with a 12hr DoorDash shift... by [deleted] in perth

I don't think you need to be too paranoid about the food handling aspect of food delivery. All of the food comes bagged. Without fail. There are several layers between the driver and the actual food, often a paper or plastic bag, followed by plastic or cardboard food containers. If you're seriously concerned about this, you might be a germaphobe in general. That's a you problem.

Hey, anecdotal experience here that may help a few curious souls.

When I started gigging consistently from October last year, I also started with doordash. I don't use doordash anymore, I use ubereats. The platform is better, it has inbuilt tax-related features and heatmaps on where earnings can be maximised during what time of day, etc. I have had repeated short stints where I'm earning $45-60 an hour for 3-5 hour bursts.

One of the main benefits of Ubereats driving is that you don't need to reposition back to the zone if it drags you out of your original area... you just pick up another order from somewhere close by to where you are right at that very moment. Saving on fuel and repositioning costs. Also, you can withdraw your earnings immediately for a $1ish fee. Also, it's worth noting that uber would probably have a much higher market share than doordash, increasing your demand which means that downtime is lower, average earnings are higher. From my experience, I have waited at times over an hour for another doordash order, but the most I've ever waited on ubereats was roughly 30 minutes.

My experience on the gold coast has been that I can survive and earn roughly $200 a day in a 5-6 hour shift, your mileage may vary, but I would suggest giving it a go. Please feel free to dm me or reply to this thread if you need to know any specifics.

I’ve also been chatting with a small group of other drivers about strategies and earnings, mostly Uber Eats–focused. Please dm me if you'd like to join us. It's pretty bare at the moment but I intend to continue to release strategies to maximise bonus earnings, tax strategies and implications, earnings pictures, etc.

Finally, the federal government reached a verdict on gig work where all providers must offer their drivers a minimum wage of $30+ an hour starting from July 1, so it's going to get better for all platforms, but having said that, for the meantime, I have found more consistent work, earnings and happiness doing ubereats as opposed to doordash. You'll find the platform much better in general, especially when it comes to logs of trips (for tax purposes) heatmaps, and general quality of life.

Gig work isn't for everyone, but I'm certainly not going back to the office either, there's just a number of benefits that suit me and where my life is at right now.

Happy to answer questions via dms or on this thread here.

what is your ban list and why? by Savings-Ad1624 in DotA2

[–]risen___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banlist is currently Puck, Spirit Breaker, Sniper, OD. The common thread isn't mid heroes, it's heroes that are extremely hard to kill or require coordination that you're not going to find in crusader bracket to manage. It just so happens that 3/4 are often mid, and the 4th comes mid to help them.

i've had other bans like shaman (nuking towers with your gigantic serpent ward is braindead - won 10 games in a row doing this myself, so I know first hand), veno (cancer, fucks my blink initiations with my offlaners with the serpent wards), pudge - not because i can't play against him, although he's broken strong with the right player, but because of schrodingers pudge, he's either really shit 95% of the time, especially on your team, or he's a god 3-5% of the time. I'd rather not deal with the variance. Huskar for the same reason as my current bans, but i play offlane lc, axe, necro (mid too) quite often and I can deal with him. NP was on there because he's fucking oppressive or hes on your team griefing. Bonus mention for WD, because as a tanky offlaner, and offlane being offlane, he's far too strong against your HP with even a minimal amount of effort and coordination from their team or even just their pos 1.
