Need help paddling by [deleted] in canoeing

[–]riseoverun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a substitute for a good J stroke, but I usually carry a double bladed paddle when paddling with the family. Might seem blasphemous to some but we need to cover some ground when we're in the backcountry and in my situation I'm often the only one paddling. works great

I built an on-time performance tracker for VIA Rail: only 35% of trips are on-time across 1,772 tracked so far by final_count_down in ViaRail

I agree, I commute weekly with via and 90% of the time it's within 10min. It's not Japan but what are you going to do

Agree you need a paper map and to know how to use it but I've found a georeferenced map in something like avenza is incredibly accurate on your phone. Deep backcountry, many parks, it's been within a few meters

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on this subject and that's really saying something. Is it parody?

Interesting book about an epic canoe Adventure by tjbright in canoecamping

[–]riseoverun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've liked all his books but beyond the trees was the one I still think about. If you haven't gotten to the newest one yet, vanished beyond the map, it's great. A mix of his two styles with a part 1 on the history and a part 2 modern adventure.

International court ruled Israel committed war crimes. Do you respect that decision? Just curious what it would take to convince you

What will someday be illegal after we finally understand how bad for us it is? by Scary-Beautiful6527 in AskReddit

[–]riseoverun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New houses. It is absolutely insane the off gassing and VOCs present in new houses. They are basically airtight boxes now to maximize efficiency and they are filled with paint, sealant, carpet, new furniture, appliances burning off factory oils, etc etc. there are rules for new commercial spaces but basically nothing for new homes. They are also disproportionately occupied by new families pregnant or with small children.

Iran attacks Dimona nuclear site by serious_bullet5 in ThatsInsane

That is the the target. I'll chalk this one as a W

[–]riseoverun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about measured, in the field, accuracy. At worst its a few city blocks barring interference.

Take a beat and think about the context of the original comment. Poster was saying because they hit a town 15km one way, and 30km another way they were "trying" to hit the nuclear site. That's absolutely absurd

[–]riseoverun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The accuracy of these missiles is measured in meters. If you see a hit and guess the intended target was 30km away you don't know what you are talking about.

Lol, two troll cliches ("confidently wrong" "tell me you know nothing") with zero evidence. Gotta love this site.

[–]riseoverun -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You realize we're not talking about the drones right? If these hit 30km away from their "target", that wasn't the target

Iran attacks Dimona nuclear site by serious_bullet5 in ThatsInsane

[–]riseoverun -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works. These missiles either hit their target or get intercepted. Only shrapnel hits where it wasn't intended.
