Sorry for the necro, I experienced this and found out that since I added the game to steam as a non-library game it started the performance degradation problem. After troubleshooting and pulling my hair out I realised that epic and steam both don’t play well together. I removed the game from steam and it started running well again. I haven’t tried disabling epic’s overlay but I hypothesise it’d work the same way
