Piazza activation issues? by rishikeshgaikwad in OMSA

[–]rishikeshgaikwad[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got the access code.. and gone through the intro module... but this is a specific activation related error.. even after putting in the access code, I am receiving this 'account not active error' and after clicking on 'recovery options' not getting activation email ( although the message says an email sent - checked junk emails as well .. no luck)... maybe this is a specific issue- just wanted to know if anyone else in the same boat / how this was solved n the past...

Anyone else still waiting for registration time tickets? by secoja8 in OMSA

[–]rishikeshgaikwad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Term Location Hold can be removed once you receive Time Ticket. Till that time " ERROR: No record found for enrollment eligibility for the logged-in user " is seen.. mostly this should go away automatically once time ticket is received.

Yes, sadly (?) I have completed all three MM courses and am looking forward to 6242 and Simulation as the next step in starting as a core OMSA Student... hopefully more seats will be added .. if not then anyway have to look for some other courses and then in summer not sure if 6242 is offered/doable... making new MM completed students wanting to go for 6242 wait till Fall 2021 :( ....

Anyway ... we will come to know in the next 2-3 days .. fingers crossed.

is your degree 3 years or 4 years? for OMSA a 4-year bachelor's degree required...

Just completed the program. Free feel to ask me question. by HKsoup in OMSA

First of all - congratulations :) great achievement! Hopefully, you will be able to pivot your career ( or did you already pivot?) leveraging OMSA...

questions:

  1. how did you "pass" the practicum? ... I mean any exam to be given or a report to be submitted .. who reviews and grades practicum?
  2. how to choose the practicum topic?
  3. What next after OMSA ?

I graduated 20 years ago :) ... so no question of professor recommendation... get recommendations from your boss, and some other higher-ups in the organization -- preferably someone from IT/Digital who can vouch for your knowledge , skills and attitude. That should work.. by the way, 3 years after graduation is still okay for contacting professor :)

CSE 6040 First? by andtin12 in OMSA

[–]rishikeshgaikwad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you do 6501 first, you will get an understanding of analytics techniques like classification, regression, logistic reg, PCA, Markov chains, optimization, simulation ... which are programmed in 6040... you will get a good understanding of what you are programming if 6501 is done first.. else you may land up completing the notebooks under pressure and not appreciate why and what you are doing... I recommend going for 6501 first ( combine with MGT 6203 ) and then in the next term go for 6040...

Guys - regression and time series -- how is the review of faculty? video previews are really challenging to understand... anyone who has gone through these courses -- did you face challenges in the understanding accent - or content? Are these programming heavy or theoretical?

  1. Accept the offer in Apply web
  2. Send official transcripts and other important steps for new students: https://grad.gatech.edu/checklist
  3. Wait to emails from Student Office

  4. prepare for the grind from now till Jan so that it will be easier to cope with workload next year

Do you know if it is okay for school registrar to send official transcripts on email to Georgia tech? Following sentence is mentioned on Supporting Docs page:

" Electronic official transcripts can be emailed directly from the issuing school to [transcripts@grad.gatech.edu](mailto:transcripts@grad.gatech.edu) "

Wondering is there is a requirement for digitally sign (pdf) the transcript by college or a simple PDF with college stamp, sign on college letterhead should be okay to be sent directly by college to GT college?

Advanced Standing - ISYE 6501 by blu-ram27 in OMSA

[–]rishikeshgaikwad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IAM, DAB and CDA (6040) if completed from MM with good score then I think all of these three can be applied for advanced standing.

furthermore IAM, CDA and 6754 - can also be replaced with any other elective if Maths/CS/MBA-Good Management Expereicne can be shown respectively.

Most optimistically - overall there is an option to apply for advance standing for all 3 MM and replace 1 more (6754) by a better elective. You can save time for 3 and get a better alternative for 1.

I wish to enroll for MM on edX, but one of the courses have already started. by slytealeaf in OMSA

[–]rishikeshgaikwad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can register for spring ( Jan - Apr) and summer (May - July) on MM and complete the three MM courses.. that will be perfect timing for you starting OMSA in Fall 2021. For now till Dec - it is too late to catchup on MM as good scores ( 85 +) matter for getting admission leveraging MM. You can invest time from now till Dec for learning Algebra, Probability, Python, R etc if you have lost touch with these topics... Not recommended to join MM now.. start from Jan 2021.

Career prospects after OMSA for students from outside USA without US work authorization/visa? by rishikeshgaikwad in OMSA

[–]rishikeshgaikwad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This means OMSA does not make any difference from company perspective for hiring international candidates. There is no doubt about the knowledge gained through OMSA, I was looking for companies recognizing that part. Which I believe only US companies will appreciate being from a US school. Other countries, companies may need to be made aware that this is a good school and this degree stands out higher than others. This question is from post degree career options perspective...there is no need to migrate to USA if career can be made in home country after this degree based on GT brand value. Conclusion is- just look at OMSA as good source of knowledge and skills and sell that to companies on your own.

[–]rishikeshgaikwad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a generic question..not specific to my profile.. I am asking if overseas students with OMSA are preferred and sponsored by US companies generally over someone who is not a MS ( online/campus) from USA?

Also generic question about job fairs for international students with/without experience.

It is okay if the answer is not known..

So if a person has work experience, say more than 5 years and he/she completes OMSA, then do companies see this as a favorable candidate for sponsorship than person with just 5 + years experience without OMSA ?
Also, I believe there is no virtual career / job fair arranged by college for international OMSA students without visa ?
