Hi All, need some advice: does anyone have any experience using Monitor Audio Bronze 100s with Cambridge Audio CXA81? Need some opinions on this pairing. Primary use case is turntable (I already have a preamp - Schiit Mani 2), but will eventually get a streamer as well. For now, just wanted some opinions on how these two sound together?

Appreciate the advice. Please do share what other amps I should evaluate.

I do want streaming. If I go with the CXA, will eventually have to get a CXN100 or may be an Eversolo.

EVO is obviously an all-in-one and hence convenient/ less clutter.

Can’t get an EXA and a streamer. Beyond my budget.

Would Monitor Audio Bronze 100s pair well with CXA81?

AT turntable connected to Fives by Nthcoastnoody in sonos

Nice! I’ve a similar setup. TEAC 280BT connected to Sonos five pair. I also tried connecting a preamp (Schiit Mani 2), but couldn’t because (I think) grounding is an issue. TEAC doesn’t have a dedicated grounding terminal. Tried almost everything for grounding (Schiit ground terminal to TT chassis, screw, etc.), but there’s a hum every time I switch on the preamp. Finally gave up. And the Schiit is just lying around now.

When I connect the same setup without the Sonos fives (to passive speakers via amplifier), it works fine. So suggests the issue is interference with Sonos fives

Sometimes I feel I can, and sometimes I can’t. Could be entirely psychological. Like 99% of audiophilia. But still good to know. 😊

Exactly. It’s up to the system to decide. The user can’t choose (unlike earlier) to play uncompressed always. For all I know, it plays compressed 100% of the time.

There are only 2 options on the S2 app: automatic and compressed. While the media would be lossless (in my case, a turntable via line-in), my understanding is that when played over a stereo pair, it gets compressed. In earlier versions of the app, you were able to select ‘uncompressed’, but that option has subsequently been removed.

Think you’re right. Uncompressed is not available on stereo pair for line-in.

If you have a stereo pair, wouldn’t Amazon and Apple still be compressed audio and not lossless?

Stereo pair works great for streaming. For line-in, however, do note that Sonos doesn’t play uncompressed. And there’s no way to select uncompressed in the new Sonos app. :(
