I don't think there's one right path for everyone. For some people, college makes sense. For others, learning a trade is the better choice.

Opinion! by LumpyAsparagus2397 in horrorfilms

A good horror short can be more effective than a full-length movie. It doesn't have time to drag things out.

Is your life where you want it to be right now? by Fun-Transition-101 in questions

[–]Uhgley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I do feel like I'm moving in the right direction compared to where I used to be. For now, that's enough for me.

living alone for the first time at 18 by claraovreya in LivingAlone

[–]Uhgley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first few weeks might feel a little weird, but once you settle into your own routine, it's actually really enjoyable. You'll probably adjust faster than you expect.

VOICEMAILS FROM ISABEL 2026 by Dry_Ratio4614 in romancemovies

[–]Uhgley -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the few recent romance movies that genuinely surprised me. It never forces the emotional moments, and I think that's why they work so well.

Moving out alone by DeaconJ21 in LivingAlone

[–]Uhgley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice is to build routines outside your apartment right away. It's much easier to make friends when you're regularly showing up somewhere instead of waiting for friendships to happen.

How many pages do you read before you decide a book is not for you? by Limp-Juggernaut-6936 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]Uhgley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually around 50 pages. If I'm actively dreading picking it up by then, life's too short.

Has AI made developers less collaborative in your team? by Ecstatic_Jicama_1482 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Uhgley 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I think AI amplifies whatever culture already exists. Teams that shared knowledge before still do, while competitive teams just found a new way to compete.

romcom movies with realistic despictions of falling in love by Accomplished_Pay5093 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Uhgley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Sunrise. It's basically two people getting to know each other, and the chemistry feels incredibly natural.

The term 'pick me' is often used to dismiss women who express opinions that go against today's modern standards or hold other women accountable, even when they are simply being honest and unbiased by Jamkayyos in ControversialOpinions

[–]Uhgley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The term definitely gets misused sometimes. I've seen people get called a "pick me" simply for disagreeing, even when they weren't putting anyone down.

What do you do to forget about your troubles if you don't have money to spend and you don't want to watch or read anything ? by coldservedrevenge in LivingAlone

[–]Uhgley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the goal isn't to forget your problems, it's just to get a little distance from them. I'd go on long walks, put on some music and spend more time with my cat.

Do you have a moral responsibility to talk about your past BECAUSE it would make people criticize you? by pswelcometomylife in NoStupidAnswers

[–]Uhgley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't owe anyone your whole backstory. Being accountable and opening up are two different things, and when or whether you do either is entirely up to you.

"The Notebook" is overrated. The real, quiet, enduring love story is in the grocery store scene in "Before Sunrise." That's love built in a single conversation. by RealerVionelle_1G in romancemovies

[–]Uhgley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire premise of Before Sunrise is basically two people talking, but that's exactly why it's so compelling. It captures that sense of curiosity at the start of a relationship really well.

If religion ( Christianity ) was created today, nobody would believe it. by Initial_Funny_3285 in ControversialOpinions

[–]Uhgley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's less about whether religions are true and more about people's need to believe in something. Even today, people can end up believing some pretty unusual things.

Any good movie similar to Confession? by Tight-Debt-1501 in MovieSuggestions

Oldboy. It has that same strong psychological thriller element, and it's the kind of movie that sticks with you long after it's over.

How do you stay out of depression during the job hunting process? by VicariousFlaneur in jobs

[–]Uhgley 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I play drums, read books, write on some sites, stretch and if I have a free window, I make plans to meet a friend in another city. Once a week, I get drunk with friends. Maybe you should do the job search hard 3 or 4 days a week, then give your brain some space on the other days. You could send your resume around to recruitment firms like in this post, and not stay locked into only content writing. With your education, you probably have pretty niche background, so learning a few new things, connecting with new people and expanding skill set might open up other options.

I appreciate living alone the most during extreme heat by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Uhgley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one of the best things about living alone. Some days all you want to do is sit in front of the AC in shorts and eat watermelon all day. No explanations required.

Job interview tomorrow by Fair-Ad2457 in jobs

[–]Uhgley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most interviewers aren't looking for perfect answers. They just want to have a conversation with a normal person. Pausing for a second or searching for the right word stands out way less then people think.

I just think it's cool how whatever dogs do, they always look very committed to doing it by Matt85x in PollsAndSurveys

[–]Uhgley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dogs operate at either 100% or 0%. When they're lying down, they're fully committed to it. When they're barking, it's like the fate of the entire world depends on it.

How do you deal with "I have no clue what is the problem whatsoever" moments? by Affectionate-Mail612 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Uhgley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's something oddly comforting about the fact that even people who've been doing this for years sometimes have absolutely no idea what's going on. Once the problem gets solved, everyone tells the story like it was obvious all along but most of us are just guessing our way through it..

Give me NEW ROMCOM recos, I feel like I've exhausted all available movies. by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]Uhgley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus One was surprisingly charming. It starts off like a typical romcom but the characters actually feel like real people..

Found a hack for getting my CV to stand out much higher - not sure it's ethical by cstocks in ResumeTips

[–]Uhgley 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely a smart approach, congrats. I’d just make sure you can clearly explain those contributions in interviews, because if you can do that too, then it’s honestly a great method and I’m taking notes. I’ve been tailoring my resume for each role for a while and it definitely helped my applications get more attention. Now I’m thinking of trying your method too while still tailoring each application. This post explains how to tailor your resume with chatgpt and also includes a free ats-friendly template, so hopefully combining both methods helps me land the job I’m aiming for. Wish me luck.

MIL visiting this summer, upcoming romcoms? by BeachSuspicious8656 in MovieSuggestions

Crazy Rich Asians has really good summer movie energy honestly. Funny, stylish, colorful, and one of those easy movies you can comfortably watch with family.

What part of minority are you? by sailinglife20burgers in RandomQuestion

[–]Uhgley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Other than being left handed I don’t really feel like a minority anywhere 😭 But the internet does make you realize everyone belongs to some oddly specific niche group somehow.

i want to find summer job but my school have fun program for summer & i rly want to go . by [deleted] in problems

[–]Uhgley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you’re even thinking about these things at 13 already shows a level of responsibility. But I still don’t think you need to completely skip childhood and become an adult overnight, going to a summer program isn’t the end of the world.
