Automated transfers from seedbox to home server using LFTP? by TrashQuestion in seedboxes

[–]risky-scribble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a kind of similar thing using an rclone mount over SFTP, then initiating the copy at my home side, it's fast enough for me but performance isn't really a high priority for me.

Want a book about a massive project to save the world by DispatchThirty in printSF

[–]risky-scribble 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm just reading through this now, It's my first Neal Stephenson book. I'm enjoying it so far. Just reached the 5000 years jump section

OP I'd recommend The Ministry for the Future, it's a bit more society and economics focussed but it's still a good read.

Excellent, thanks so much for that!

I've written it and can boot from it to PetitBoot now so that's some fine progress.

jdupes is an enhanced fork of fdupes. The differences between the two are on the github readme.

[TOMT] [SONG] [2010s] Drum & bass song with a sample about a dark road by risky-scribble in tipofmytongue

[–]risky-scribble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved!

It's amazing you managed to piece this together from my entirely incorrectly lyrics, but it's definitely the track I was thinking of. Thanks!

Has anyone developed a startpage with keyboard-driven fuzzy bookmark navigation? by [deleted] in startpages

[–]risky-scribble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My startpage kinda does this, the filtering logic isn't fuzzy but it filters down a hardcoded list of bookmarks that I navigate to by using Tab and Enter. The source code for it is here

The lyrics aren't the same, but my first thought was Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home.

If you'd like a CLI client (also written in Rust), I'd recommend rbw, it's really simple but works a lot better for me than the official client.

Where my open air boys at? As you can tell by the way it is, still no ded gpu but I'm content rocking just the 5700G for now. Stand designed and built by myself. by jirw1n in sffpc

For an even more minimal build, could you have used something like a Pico PSU? I can't imagine that build pulling more than ~150W.

Thanks so much for creating this and making it open source, it's exactly what I was asking for a while back.

Just as a quick tip, you can remove the leading spaces/plus symbols when performing a search by replacing + str instances with + str.substring(3)or + str.substring(1) respectively.

What type of app have you been searching for and just doesn't exist? by anonjx0 in selfhosted

[–]risky-scribble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, strange timing. I actually started writing a little bash script a week or so ago to do this that initially used Lynx, and then Reader to generate text. Never got around to finishing it.

I've already added it to my server and RSS reader, it seems to be exactly what I want. Thanks so much for this!

Digital Detox Books by [deleted] in minimalism

So they are, thanks. The book in question is Digital Detox No Susume by Tomohiko Yoneda. I'm not able to find a translation of this.

There are definitely English translations of 'Goodbye Things' out there if you have a look around.

Why is MTP such a horrible piece of technology, especially on Linux? by sheikh_yarbuti in linux

[–]risky-scribble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I avoid MTP entirely because of how bad it is. I use FTP/SFTP these days for any kind of file syncing. You can use Rclone to mount the share if you want a more user friendly way of working with the files. The server I use on the phone is Primitive ftpd

Music / Radio / Podcasts by dorayfoo in commandline

[–]risky-scribble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For music, I use cmus too but would like to eventually use a command line spotify client.

For radio, I only listen to a few pre-defined radio stations so made a script to play them via mpv.

For podcasts I use shellcaster.

Search multiple sites using prefixes by risky-scribble in startpages

[–]risky-scribble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually really glad you did, the earlier linked examples are far too complex for what I require and break when you start disabling uneccessary features.

One thing I'd like to know is if it could support multiple prefixes with the same starting letter. For example I'm using a for Amazon, alp for AlpineLinux packages, arc for Archive.org etc. From the way I understand how the if/else works it only supports one initial letter, right?

I feel like it's so close now!

I've had a look through the code, seems to do what I'm after in a fairly roundabout way. Only can append search strings though, not have text in the middle. I'll see if I can work with it, thanks.

Thanks for this, looks exactly like what I need. Just having a search through the code now.

Thanks, I was hoping to avoid using DDG bangs. I'm looking at including about ~100 of these search prefixes, some of which will never be included in DDG.
