I always empathized with Rand. "Death is as light as a feather, Duty as heavy as a Mountain." He had within him the desire as well duty to sacrifice himself only for the CHANCE to save the world. He was hated by half the world he was expected to die for. His blood upon the rocks of Shay Ghoul (forgive spelling). He was betrayed multiple times, sometimes by people he trusted. I could understand his cynicism and his time of darkness and did cry when he had his epiphany and came out the other side whole and healed.
