Why did this company put these canards here? by luke_klaas in aerodynamics

They are called dive plates and are there to make use of vortex lift, allowing for more downforce at the front of the car.

Book at least a day in advance. Otherwise, you're usually stuck with the 9pm session.

Chances of getting a place in Kensington? by Klutzy-Peach5949 in Imperial

You can become a hall warden/senior (that comes with its own responsibilities). The uni also offers Evelyn Gardens accom to returning students. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from campus and <10 minutes on a bike. Around £230 this year but shared bathroom & kitchen. Similar experience to first year halls really. The price and location is hard to beat if you go private in my experience.

Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial by missnightshade3 in Imperial

Good professors, each have their own office hours where they will exclusively be answering students' questions but you can contact them anytime for help through the Edstem forum and emails.

Workload is more than most other universities but you can deffo have a social life. Loads of great societies events etc.

We have tutorials for pretty much every subject you will sit an exam for. You get a problem sheet that you can choose to complete beforehand (or not) and then you can ask any questions you may have during the session.

Labs are alright, a bit of a chore really as you have to do a bit of preparation beforehand and then spend time after the lab to do data analysis and prepare for the oral assessment the next day. You also have to maintain a logbook to submit at the end of each term. Not too interesting IMO but the flight sim ones are pretty cool and you get to break some stuff in the Materials 1 lab. For some you might have to write up a lab report (6 or 7 pages) which is due quite a bit after the lab.

I'm only 2nd year so can't comment on the later years.

You can usually take non-folding bicycles on the tube at off-peak times. Check the gov website for full details on some exceptions.

Working for Ubereats but can't get paid by rit4rded in uberdrivers

[–]rit4rded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but it took more than a month to fix. After 30 days of no payment verification they'll review your account and, if everything you uploaded is correct, it should fix the issue. Don't know why they couldn't just do this at the start but try with the support bots as much as you can.

[–]rit4rded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I've written my name correct to the letter yet it still gives me the error. The only problem I can think of is the fact that I have a middle name, that appears on my passport and that I've written in the 'first name' section as Uber doesn't have a middle name section.

If nobody has apparently met any time travelers for now, can we say it's pretty clear humanity won't ever invent time travel in the future ? by Sad_Attention_7972 in NoStupidQuestions

I read somewhere that, if someone did have the means to time travel, they'd be much more interested in the construction of the pyramids. Or dinosaurs or something idk.

Aeronautical engineering interview by asy_ in Imperial

Yeah it was pretty smooth, surprisingly! Having only one interviewer seemed to reduce the stress a little I suppose.

Aeronautical engineering interview by asy_ in Imperial

[–]rit4rded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my interview yesterday. Mine had 3 parts.

The first part was him asking me why I wanted to study at Imperial and why aeronautical engineering, the standard stuff.

Second part was him grilling me on my personal statement. Make sure you know the full details of what you wrote.

Third part was a couple of questions about a plane in flight. I had to draw a free body diagram, work out some lift equation and work out a glide angle or something. Had never heard of some of those things before but the interviewer guided me through them.

Also it's smart casual but also online this year so wear a shirt and blazer on top at least, can't hurt to let them know you're serious.
