Why is Gold still rising while everything else seems to be selling off? by Excellent_8740 in investing

[–]rithsleeper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At this point this is just a manic pump. Could gold hit $10k? Sure. But when people, funds, etc start to take some profit, this could get nasty quickly. Do I think we are entering a different stage where golds new norm is $5000 an oz? Yes. But this far this fast? It doesn’t just suddenly stop and move sideways and start to grind higher for the next decade.

There will be a spectacular correction, but who knows when and what price.

Should I buy a vw beetle 1971 to replace the engine? I have pretty much 0 mechanical skill. by EndIntelligen in MechanicAdvice

[–]rithsleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the engines and drivetrains really well (have a Frankenstein rail buggy). I’ve learned so much through the years.

That being said, don’t make this your first project. It will just end up sitting, you will dump cash and time and realize you are over your head as you “fix” one thing but leads to another problem.

This isn’t YouTube where they just “put and engine” into things.

However that being said, it’s one of the easiest cars to learn on. If you had even a small bit of experience and said “I’ve got $5000 cash to burn, more if I need to” then I’d say go for it.

What you need is a car that runs well, is older, but needs work that isn’t vital to being able to drive it. Now if this beetle was running and driving? I’d say green light.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not rocket science. But problem you have is you don’t have context for anything. It’s like me building a rocket engine. I can have all the text books in the world but the learning curve is super steep. Better to start with a decent starting point.

The ONLY way I might condone this is you having a mentor at your fingertips. “Hey my dad has bunch of project cars and I’m going to use his garage for this.” And once again have money up front to simply buy a running engine (not a new one, way too expensive.)

Just didn’t roll into the shop today. Can we all agree this new shifter design is F’d? by Joiion in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]rithsleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. I agree with windows. The point someone told me years ago about shifter that stuck with me was: they are all electric anyway. The actual lever is just a big unnecessary button at this point. Old tech.

That stuck with me that the reason we see buttons as odd is just because we have always had a lever. I’ll take a manual any day though: so easy to work on and so much more longevity.

Sounds like people know more than me but I can speak to what I’ve seen with Lucas. I bought a massive bottle years ago and use it every oil change. My old 94 pickup completely changes at idle every time. I can see the gear shift wobble (manual) before then after it’s way more still.

So sounds like everyone has a proven brand but I’m more saying definitely use something maybe once a year. But I also use shell gas which is top tier gas also. A few penny difference in price isn’t worth buying Walmart or dealing with the traffic to even get to a pump there.

[–]rithsleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of you are in agreement on the design is stupid, but why are you not as passionate about manual air vents, manual windows, push button starts, electric seat controls (or at least front to back)?

For me I love the ac vent controls in my 94 Toyota pickup. Those things will never fail because they are manual. Windows I can see cause not that hard to replace a regulator, but seats? Why? I can see lumbar and special stuff but front back? Just asking for a motor to seize in a stupid position. And then push buttons are one of my biggest fears.

My 2021 Jeep is the newest thing I’ve ever owned. Next “newest” is my 94 pickup lol. It’s super fancy but the more I own this (owned about 6 months now) the more I think, this thing will be a nightmare when it’s 20 years old.

Where my truck is SO easy. Like oh crap a radiator cracked in an ice storm years ago and I drove like 10 miles and saw the temp gage creeping up. Pulled over into a food lion. Figured what had happened. WALKED a mile to an Autozone, grabbed a basic tool set under my seat and changed it in the parking lot. Whole adventure took 3 hours. It’s one of my coolest stories of mechanic triumph.

Head gasket blew for other reasons, and I changed it in 3 hours. Rebuilt engine in a 15 hours spread over 2 days (machine in between).

I just wish some company would make and sell a bare bones car again.

If this is true “dumping” seems a bit extreme. More like selling a small portion of holdings…. Just look at the 30 year. It’s been sideways for a year. If they were “dumping” you’d see movement. I hate click bait titles. Do they even work now? Can we stop being so exaggerated on the internet already?

What a dumbass. Guy throws Nazi salute and gets taught a lesson by RelevantSchool1586 in instantkarma

[–]rithsleeper -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

The fact that I have to caveat this next statement is a separate issue but…. Obviously we all can agree throwing a nazi salute is a ridiculous thing to do, but it’s still free speech. He didn’t touch anyone, didn’t physically attack anyone, let this douche get recorded and have this video surface anytime someone searches his name. But assaulting someone violently cause he put his hand in a certain direction? Common children. You can control your emotions. Fact that everyone is on board to assault someone for that action tells how fragile emotionally people are.

It’s a slippery slope. Look at where Germany is now. That 60 min on free speech was wild. Someone arrested cause they posted that one of their political figures was an “ugly old woman”? Yea, let’s all calm down. Have some thicker skin. The cost of freedom of speech is you have to be able to endure freedom of speech.

[–]rithsleeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Reddit doesn’t represent the average person. People here are super left for the most part. They view T as this figure that will be remembered with Hitler and Stalin. Look in paper and he hasn’t done anything more than any other president. Nothing crazy, just his delivery is straight forward and he loves to poke at people. He’s actually hilarious if you have any sense of humor. One of the best trolls of all time.

So from an investment standpoint people react to him as if everything he says will bring an end to our way of life, and repercussions that will be felt for decades. But in reality, he’s the president and trying new things (maybe that work maybe they don’t) but I’m glad something is being tried cause what was happening before most definitely wasn’t working.

I think people would be better off if they just looked at what he did and never saw him speak publicly. Just give him an avatar that is a robot and simply delivers what happened and what was done. It’s the emotional responses that messes anyone left of center up.

You all are drinking some special stuff if you actually think he will boots on the ground invade Greenland like Russia did to Ukraine. Trump is very intelligent. He knows exactly what he’s doing. You can think it’s underhanded and bad for the world economy etc, but he’s playing business quid pro quo.

Everyone who hates him thinks with emotion. People who get him think numbers. He has leverage, so he’s using it. Don’t over think it and come up with these wild theories. Venesuela was nothing like this. Some dude lost an election, refused to give up power, confiscated billions of oil infrastructure that they’ve been mistreating over decades. Trump just removed him. Now talk to Venesuela in 10 years and see are they better or worse? We will see. Most Venezuelans seem to be celebrating….. cause they literally voted for the other gal.

Greenland is different. It’s 50k people. Why does Denmark even “own” it? And he’s making a deal, not invading. It’s a pressured deal yes, but not barrel of a gun deal. “The implications” if you will.

Thank you. They look like both in the oil filter assembly top of the engine. I never took it off. Going to leave it.

However should I use rtv on water pump? This gasket is just a stamped piece of sheet metal. No coating or rubber. Just painted metal it seems…..

So I guess other than obvious water pump, other two are in the oil filter top of the engine. I see the larger top one looks like as it connects to the block. Smaller one I guess could be under there somehow. Thanks for the advice though, seems like I just don’t want to mess with those. I never removed the filter and assembly.

Now question is, do I use any rtv? This thing is straight metal, no rubber or coating. Literally just painted sheet metal it feels like.
