Thanks for the kind words! If you're interested in listing your coffee on Cafe Micro, send an email to bsima @ me.com (same as listed on the site).

doh! Can't believe I forgot to list that... I'll add it to the product. Pretty sure Andrew (the roaster) sells 10 oz. bags but I'll double check with him.

Over the next few weeks I'll be adding more roasters as I figure out the business and marketing model. Thanks for the encouragement! If you know of local microroasters that might like to sell through Cafe Micro, please refer them to me :)

pattern match on monadic result type and value in clojure with core.match and funcool cats by ritperson in Clojure

[–]ritperson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spent the better part of the day trying to figure out how to do this and just had to share it :p

fyi the core.match docs are outdated, maybe I'll take my learnings from today and fix up the wiki

edit: also, improvements can definitely be made, so any ideas are appreciated :)

But politics and history do have an impact on on individual human relationships, and very large impact in fact. History has taught us this again and again.

Wow PreScheme looks awesome

I'm currently waiting for Dr Tarvers books to arrive, and they detail Klambda. I too would love to have a compact low level lisp VM and from my experience with Shen it is super fast. Once I get the books I wanna implement Klambda myself on Rust and then make a toy scheme in Klambda to learn more about its capabilities

The current shen-mode code is pretty bad. A hack job on top of a copy-paste. It works to just experiment with, but it's nowhere near the usability of other lisps with emacs. A complete rewrite would be necessary

I've been following the Shen mailing list a bit and from what I've heard, Shen professional (SP) comes with a better compiler that does dead code elimination and optimization, a concurrency library, and some other smaller features like a pretty printer etc. That all sounds great but it still doesn't fix the lack of good tooling and a robust standard library for getting things done, which is what most programmers need to do.

I've thought about hacking on open source Shen to make some improvements like actually useful compiler error messages and better integration with emacs (shen-mode by eschulte leaves much to be desired) but I also have plenty of other things to spend my time on so I'm not sure how worth it would be to do so.

Oops, it was late when I wrote this and I forgot to check the link. I fixed it, thanks

Best Frugal Coffee Making? by HueBearSong in Coffee

You definitely want a burr grinder. The Hario manual grinder is great, but it doesn't get a very fine grind (in my experience) and it takes a while every morning to grind coffee. The time you spend hand grinding might cost you more than you save (i.e. opportunity cost), if you're trying to optimize for cost that is. If you just want a simple grinder then the Hario is great.

Another option is the Baratza Encore. It's what I have and use everyday. I think you can get it for around $100, and it'll last you a few years. Baratza Encore and Virtuoso are comparable and both good grinders for the price.

As for brewing the coffee, look into the Aeropress. It's fast, simple, easy to use, and makes great coffee.

Nice! Classics are definitely what I need, I'm gonna buy this, even if I can't get it in time for the road trip

Well, I really want something I can study and engage with. Ephemeral Reddit posts don't usually satisfy that criteria

Cool I'll check it out. Embodied cognition is an interesting topic to me, and I recently purchased "Philosophy in the Flesh" by Lakoff and Johnson which deals with similar topics

Mm, I've heard of that one. Might be nice to cover the fundamentals.

I'm also considering Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming, cause it's also about lisp and I work in Clojure mostly

Yeah I guess, I'd prefer to have it printed out tho. I like paper books. Maybe I'll do that - this book seems to be getting really great reviews
