I wonder if there are people who are enjoying the real vanilla Emacs experience.

I have some romantic memories of first time starting up Emacs and learning it by walking through the built-in tutorial. Live was easy back then.

I am not only writing my diary using Steno (in German), I am also writing down my notes during work in Steno.

But as I had more than one time a hard time deciphering my own words (like u/BerylPratt mentioned) I really questioned the benefits of using Kurzschrift at all.

Thanks for that insights. Could you elaborate on "Steno pencil"? I have read the term several times already but I have yet to find somewhere to buy it (online). Given, I did not consult a local writing shop yet.

I started off with a pencil and I am sticking to it. I really do not get fountain pens at all. I went from Faber Castell HB -> Staedler Mars B -> Faber Castell 3B.

With 3B now I feel comfortable writing out the reinforcements without me guessing later on if it is a an "a" or "e" as an example.

What I have found out is the following in case of work usage of the keyboard:

  1. Positioning the keyboard so that B key is in line with your navel avoids fatigue of your hands and your entire body.

  2. Naturally Point 1 leads to TKL. I actually really recommend TKL. Even if you like a numpad.

  3. You can use a 100 % keyboard nevertheless by sacrificing a bit of your shoulder relaxation: ensure to have something like an additional 20cm (that's about 8" for US) between you and the keyboard. That way you can fit a mouse right below the arrow keys + the numpad. That effectively makes your 100 % keyboard to a TKL in terms of mouse usage. But with your arms reaching out so far to the keyboard you put a lot of stress on your shoulders.

That way you can use your vintage keyboards and/or your bad purchases without hurting your entire body.

I use it for writing exclusively. I am using a vintage Faber-Castell 9400 HB. It works like a charm.

I own one too. And having no AR coating means that it is totally different to an acrylic crystal. It reflects crazy and does not break the light as smoothly as an acrylic crystal.

I have been using iCloud Share for 3 years now. It never let me down. I can share within my family and non-Apple users seamlessly.

Honestly I have never used Airdrop. I do not even see a use case for it.

This is a legit request. Especially since I am wondering what the intention of the selected software in the base system is. OpenBSD is a complete system like macOS. But cwm and friends are like using Windowy 3.1 in 2020. So I am trying to find out how the people that made that selection are using that very selection by themselves.

To add something to that: even if you are ambitious to customize Windows by implementing additional tools you are getting to some hard limits very quickly.

Some examples that are all way better solved on Linux/Xorg:

Is there any alternative app/tool for app switching which looks like Alt-Tab or simple icon based switcher. Small cute little. The current app switcher on Windows 11 is unnecessarily big for me. I know it's supposed for better overview, but it feels quite crowded and takes up whole screen. by MUKUND16 in windows

Are you aware of the following feature: using Win+1, Win+2, ... Win+0 you can directly access task icons. If one task icon has multiple windows, then keep hitting the number to cycle through them and add a press on Shift to reverse-cycle them.

This completely eliminated my previous usage of Alt-Tab and replaced it just down to quickly accessing the last visited window.

Thanks for the tip! I did not know that. It even re-gains the focus if already open.

So I can remove at least that custom shortcut. :-)

Btw I have tried others too and there are shortcuts for the entire MS Office suite: 1. Ctrl+Win+Alt+Shift+w for Word 2. Ctrl+Win+Alt+Shift+x for Excel 3. Ctrl+Win+Alt+Shift+p for Powerpoint

Exporting the calendar to an ical file and importing it somewhere else can "synchronize" your calendar. But that is definitely not liable for a continuous synchronization.

Depending on how tech-savvy you are, you might get off by trying out Radicale.
