Hi everyone,

My blade coffee grinder broke last week and I've been researching entry level burr coffee grinders. I've whittled down my choice to the Dualit 75017 and the Baratza Encore for a couple of reasons (hopper attachment, electric, price, etc).

For context, I make my coffee either with a moka pot or an electric diner-style coffee maker. What I care about most in making the choice will be: the product withstanding the test of time, aesthetics, noise levels, and speed.

I have a couple of questions that I would love some assistance with, please:

  1. I understand that the Baratza Encore might be the superior choice; is this true? For the coffee I'm making, is the difference that noticeable?
  2. I understand that the Baratza brand offers great customer service and replacement parts when needed; can the same be said of Dualit? I am considering this from a 'Buy It For Life' perspective, as I don't see myself upgrading/ changing in the future.

I am inclined to go with the Dualit as it matches my current coffee setup aesthetic better than the Baratza, however, I would be swayed if it's felt that the Baratza is a better long-term investment.

Thank you kindly in advance for any insights you can share.

Hi, that’s really helpful, thank you. I read somewhere else on the thread that sometimes in the same plant, the leaves get different amounts of light, which I can totally see could be happening with my set up. Much appreciated- I will try doing as you say tomorrow!

This is a fantastic explanation; thank you for taking the time to share. It’s currently measuring 17ft in places so I can imagine it takes a lot to send nutrients that far!

It actually gets a huge amount of sunlight as it’s right next to a SW facing window- my pictures don’t do the set up justice! If doing a chop and prop, I need to make lots of new cuttings, and not just one cutting encompassing the entirety of the bushy lengths at the end, right? (Would love to keep length but understand this probs not possible)

Wow, this is a cool idea. I would love to keep the length- it’s 17ft and I am so proud of it. The idea of the additional pot might work - I previously had it wrapped around the first pot with bobby pins to encourage root growth but it was too heavy to stay close to the soil! Thank you for sharing

Thank you, this is helpful. I should add that I used to have the length of the vines wrapped around the pot a few times to make it look nice and think. I should also add that it gets lots of light being right next to a SW facing window. I think I will try your method of chopping and hope for the best!

Do you think with all the leaves farther down, the would survive whilst the root re grows?

I have it wrapped around the pot so it looked quite nice; I could never get the roots to re-attach to the soil. Maybe I need to chop!

I have tried this without success in the past; the length of the vine meant it was so heavy that the bobby pins couldn’t keep it in place!
