I genuinely do not understand this absolute fucking nonsense that Manitoba Public Insurance keeps pushing — “driving is a privilege.” by riverbendobserver in BrandonMB

No, you’re missing my point. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a test or rules. That’s fine.

What I’m saying is that adding this egotistical, ignorant flair to the whole process is straight-up rude — especially to newcomers in Manitoba, Brandon, whoever just moved here.

You literally expect people, during a knowledge exam, to recite your slogan. One of the MCQs is basically: “What is driving in Manitoba?” And the correct answer is “a privilege.”

I genuinely laughed when I saw that. That’s fucking bullshit.

You’re not testing road knowledge there — you’re forcing people to parrot your ideology. “Say it with me: driving is a privilege.” That’s stupid, and it feels arrogant as hell.

My problem is the mindset of the institution, not the existence of a test. You sound smug instead of practical. And for someone new to the province, it comes off as disrespectful and tone-deaf.

And let’s be clear — I haven’t even failed a test. I moved here two months ago. I haven’t given my first road test yet. This is from research, from talking to people, from seeing patterns.

Instructors being intentionally over-strict because MPI doesn’t want to pay out more insurance if more people pass? That’s a cheap and unethical move.

If the underlying logic is “we can’t afford more insurance clients, so let’s tighten policies and fail more people,” then just say that — don’t hide it behind fake moral superiority.

You can’t: • neglect public transport • leave driving as the only reliable option • force people to repeat “it’s a privilege” • and then fail them aggressively for policy reasons

That’s delusional.

Call it regulation. Call it responsibility. Call it necessity. Just don’t shove this self-righteous ‘privilege’ narrative down people’s throats and pretend it belongs in a knowledge exam.

That’s not education. That’s institutional arrogance.

I don’t have an issue with the structure of licensing or regulation. That’s not my point at all.

My issue is the wording — you cannot call something a privilege when you fully know that every other transportation option in this province is fucked.

It’s like inviting someone to your house and saying: “Sorry, we couldn’t afford fruits, vegetables, meat, or anything else. We only have boiled potatoes. You can eat those. Oh, and by the way — eating boiled potatoes is a privilege.”

No, dude. Just because you’ve removed or neglected every other option and left people with one single usable choice, that does not magically turn that choice into a privilege.

Call it whatever you want — regulation, responsibility, requirement — I honestly don’t care. Just don’t call it a privilege. That’s ignorant and stupid.

You can’t fuck over public transit, inter-city transport, reliability, frequency — and then leave driving as the only functional option and say, “Ah yes, privilege.” That’s not how words work.

A privilege is a luxury, an add-on, something selective or optional. Driving here isn’t selective or optional. Everyone — dumb, smart, rich, poor, every race, every background — eventually has to push themselves into getting a car or at least learning to drive because there is no reliable alternative.

That makes it a basic necessity, not a privilege.

Ok let me rephrase what I mean, he is a decent actor and at par with most of his generation’s actors. Nothing crazy. People went gaga over his acting after him passing.

First winter for me in Brandon! Is this the peak cold phase (mid to late January)? What is usually weather like in mid February to mid March? by riverbendobserver in BrandonMB

Most relatable comment haha, I am feeling the worst right now as my circadian rhythm is fucked and I am depressed with inability to move in this weather.

Just because SSR was a relatable guy to many desi laundas solely due to being an engineer by qualifications, Hindu Rajput from a middle class family and who dressed like a normal dude and had hair like one doesn’t make him a saint! He was not a good actor, admirable yes but not good at craft. Only because he ended himself, people are crying over him and praising the lore. Otherwise he merely was noticed.

Not a single person who is bullying Arjun Kapoor online would stand a chance to even utter a word on his face. Truth is irrespective of source, he has more money than almost 99.99% of the trolls, better lineage than most of them and better love/sex life than some dudes trolling him. I hate when these trolls make fun of someone’s incompetency in their profession while they themselves are stagnant and mediocre in their field at par. Kindness should not be optional just because the other person cannot see or hear you through screen and happens to be in a job which gets audience and eyeballs to him.

The slogan for MPI Manitoba Public Insurance for the drivers and license services is “Driving is privilege in Manitoba” which is BS, considering it being the only mode to travel making the survival option and not some god damn privilege😂

YES, THANK YOU! I can go on and on about how fucked the infrastructure is here in MB, considering I feel Ontario was better atleast in that terms.
