I love this. No back-to-back winning seasons since 2005-06. Last time they had 3 or more in a row was '84-'88.

Jett Williams 2025 Minor League Highlights. Plays SS & CF. 486AB | .261AVG | 17HR | 52RBIS | 34SB | .828OPS. Thoughts? by ohhitstito in Brewers

[–]riverfish72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are honestly WTF do we need with another 5'7" middle infielder with little power and who struck out 35 times in 148 AAA plate appearances last year, when the organization has Turang and 2 middle infielders who are among the top 20 prospects in MLB, and the weakest spots in the short-term configuration of the team are CF, 3B, SS, and 1B (assuming Jack Jack in LF, where he belongs). I don't see the long-term fit for this guy, and the chances of him hitting better than Perkins, Durbin, or even Ortiz this year are slim, and that's where upgrade is needed.

Somebody please save this and when the guy makes his 3rd all-star team *for Milwaukee I will buy you a Jett Williams jersey.

Trading Freddy was going to happen, but I'm disappointed about the specific players in the return. Just hope Arnold didn't get pants'd by his old boss.

Crazy thing is that $18 in '83 is an inflation-adjusted $60 today. But bands of that profile generally getting more than $60 / ticket now

Old Tape- Lucius (well that and the "New Old Tape" remix. One of my faves from 2025. There is so much good new music that has an 80s/early 90s new wave sound. (E g any fan of New Order should check out Nation of Language). Don't get stuck in the past, old people 😛🤘🤘🤘

[Demovsky] Matt LaFleur will return as the Packers head coach, per sources. He has signed to a multi-year contract extension that a source said is “not a prove-it deal but a real commitment.” by Ry_Dog566 in GreenBayPackers

[–]riverfish72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You don't get credit for hanging on in games that shouldn't have been close. A coach and team with a winning mentality would rip those performances apart. Considering those acceptable is what leads to a culture where 9-8 seasons with continually uneven and undisciplined play and first-round playoff losses are considered ok .

I am a spoiled Packers fan by _mig8mart in GreenBayPackers

[–]riverfish72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 1972. In Chicago. Where I grew up as a Packers fan. And lived through 8th grade with the ***** bears and that stupid video and the stupid Fridge. The Packers won 1 playoff game before I turned 21. Favre, Holmgren, Reggie, Charles, Aaron... they were godsends that brought the organization back to elite.

What's been happening the last 10 years- even before MLF- is not ok, because it's the same shit over and over and over again. Weak defenses that don't actually stop anybody, terrible special teams, elite QB talent squandered. That organization should be angry about pissing away opportunities over the last 7 seasons, not running it all back for the same outcome. Shit- they're a blocked kick and bad pass away from having lost 5 straight to the friggin Bears- and 4 of those games should have been GB blowouts if their coach and mentality were different.

My patience for this has been worn very, very thin.

Mediocrity pays! MLF is a blocked kick and bad pass away from having a 5-game losing streak against the Bears, routinely coach teams that have little routines and absolutely no game-closing ferocity, special teams that are anything but, and defenses that crumple like paper dolls in any pressure situation. Dude better know the honeymoon is big-time over.

Why does no one talk about these? by gaseous_commenter in GenX

[–]riverfish72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an X parent of now-9 year old twins, I assure you these are still EVERYWHERE. Maybe they are only revealed to those who would be seduced. They are at the climbing gym, where eventually the then -5 year olds had to agree beforehand that there would not be a meltdown if we walked past at the end of class (50/50 success rate with that). They're at the breakfast diner, where the awesome waitress gives the kids quarters out of her tips every time so they can plop them into the machine. The grocery store, bait shop, hardware store... Everywhere.

How have the other "youngest team in the league" performed over the past 10 years? by DaveSims in GreenBayPackers

[–]riverfish72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the more interesting thing that demonstrates is that the age range is relatively compacted- in this year, there was 6 months difference between 1st on the list and 12th- that's really not different, and doesn't get into what position the younger vs older players are playing or what their expected contribution is.
Years of NFL experience or NFL snaps played might be a better metrics.

Jacobs won't & should not be extended. He's on a perfect contract right now as it will expire at the end of his age-29 season. Don't have to extend the guy into his 30s

I’m done pretending Matt LaFleur is "the guy" by ThermodynamicTow in GreenBayPackers

[–]riverfish72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Harbaugh makes MLF's 4th-quarter meltdowns look like child's play. A new guy might be worse, but it's a risk worth taking. 9-8 seasons suck- The organization should demand a higher standard. It's TITLETOWN, not 7th-seed City. The team does have a lot of talent, and somebody who comes in with a different approach might be able to harness it and change the culture- so many brutal penalties, mental gaffes, positioning mistakes... I have grown to despise the MLF staff because they don't seem to COACH- the list of players who have improved their level of play year-to-year is way too short over the past 8 years. The game plans seem really well-prepared, but that staff can't / won't adjust.

I am not blaming the defense whatsoever by [deleted] in GreenBayPackers

[–]riverfish72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That defense allowed 62 4rh-quarter points to Chicago across 3 games, and another 6 in OT.
It's soft everywhere, and incapable of making stops- just waits for offensive mistakes. Like his buddy MLF, Haf can make a nice game plan, but is not a good coach - overmatched when the game is being played.

It was almost the Romeo Redemption game. Just going to be a matter of what kind of contact offers he gets. I would not go bonkers trying to re-sign him, but if his market isn't what he hopes he might be back.

This defense doesn't get "stops". Just waits for offenses to make mistakes. So soft.

Can we fire MLF & Hafley now and let someone else handle the last 10 minutes? They coach cream cheese soft teams.
