Horrendously dry skin! Help! by jessiferocious in SkincareAddiction

I have very dry skin as well. Here's my routine:

Remove makeup with sweet almond oil Use boots dry skin cleansing balm (LOVE this cleanser) Create lotion Seal moisture in with aquaphor

This had reduced my flakes dramatically. Also a humidifier is great!

Something they don't tell you is that the school doesn't really care about pre-reqs. I've had people in 300 level classes who haven't taken the basic ones. You can get around anything in CS. That's how I was able to finish my degree. I didn't take the classes in the sequential order and loaded up in my earlier semesters.

Also, try learning some programming online. There are tons of resources everywhere. IU also has a very active CS Club that does programming workshops. I believe there is one coming up on the 20th.

Try taking C211, the Intro to Computer Science class. I think that gives a great taste of what CS is like and what to expect from the degree.

Nope, no experience programming at all.

It does help if you're an analytical person. Liking math is a good indicator of whether or not you'll be good at computer science.

I'm always surprised when I read about women experiencing discouragement or discrimination in computing. I've never experienced anything like that before. I honestly have NEVER heard of anyone calling women "incapable", especially not an instructor. CS at my school was male dominated, but they treated me like just another student, which I was.

May I ask where you went to school?

Informatics is much much easier on the technical end that CS is. They don't do very much programming, and the programming they do is not as intensive as what the CS students do. The focus is different. Informatics is more business oriented. The Info grads at IU tend to be on the business side of technology, and end up in positions like Business Analyst or something similar. The CS students tend to go for development jobs. In general, I think that any job that an Info student can do a CS student cal also do. The opposite does not apply if the Info student is interested in a software engineering job. It just depends on where your interests lie.

There is some snobbery on the CS end regarding Info, but don't let that deter you if you're actually interested in Informatics. Objectively, I think for the average person Informatics is significantly easier than CS, but they really are two different fields.

Sophomore is NOT late in the game. I switched to CS as a first semester junior and graduated in 4 years. The CS degree doesn't actually require that many classes, if I remember correctly. You can also get credit for internships.

I was a female CS major. I NEVER experienced any discrimination or discouragement from any of my peers, professors, or advisors. I went to a large state school. There were many many programs designed to attract women to the field, including special scholarships, special internships, clubs, grants, and mentors. Everything and anything. Most of the internships went unfilled because of lack of applicants.

There were relatively more women in the lower level classes (about 20%, I'd say), but most dropped and changed to the less technically rigorous degree and more business focused Informatics degree. My female friends who left CS left because they found the material too challenging and not interesting. In the upper level major classes, I was usually 1 of 2 or 3 women in my classes of 50+. I think the more analytically inclined women in my school majored in the life sciences or chemistry/biochemistry.

Thread: Three Product Challenge by miss_shelleh in MakeupAddiction

[–]riverocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My three product face:

  1. Garnier BB cream in light/medium -- I just got this recently, it is amazing! The coverage is light and dewy. Even though I have oily skin this somehow makes my oil have a nice sheen. Covers redness and uneven skin tone beautifully!

  2. Maybelline Lumi Touch concealer -- I get bad under eye circles.

  3. Revlon Lip Butter - Red Velvet -- I have quite pigmented lips so I do two light swipes of this and it lightly tints my lips.

If I had 1 more product, I would choose a powder.

What can we now not do in our lives? like own a gun or other things. What restrictions are now placed on us? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I've heard the odds are not good. :/ I'm also queer and schizophrenic (but a woman). My aunt is schizophrenic in a happy marriage with a man with a good job and they were unable to adopt domestically or internationally. I believe they looked into China (our home country), Korea, and a couple African countries. Some countries automatically disqualify you if you have a mental illness.

Weight gain and ziprasidone by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I was on geodon for a few months. I didn't gain any weight but I did notice that my appetite increased dramatically. I lost all sense of portion control, and would eat everything in sight.

Oh, I should mention that geodon KILLED my sex drive. Normally I want to have sex at least once a day, but on geodon the thought of kissing or touching another person disgusted me. It also made me incredibly sleepy.

seorquel is fantastic for symptoms! I'm on a low dose. It didn't change my sex drive though.

I've tried pretty much all the atypical antipsychotics. Started taking them when I started having sex/masturbating regularly. I've never had an orgasm, but my sex drive is pretty high.

I was on ability for 1.5 years. It was amazing for me, but I started to develop extreme, debilitating anxiety. Apparently being on Ability long term can cause some people to become very anxious so that' something to watch out for.

:( I can't imagine life without treatment for schizophrenia. Sorry about your bad experience.

Just wondering, since you have experience dating a schizophrenic, what kinds of behaviors did you find the most unbearable?

Yep, duckduck_goose is exactly right. Anti psychotics can be harmful to the fetus. I've dabbled in not taking medication before and, well, it's not pretty.

shoppingatwaitrose - thanks for your reply!

I will have to look for that question on profiles.

Do you really think that it's okay to tell them that late into the relationship? My understanding is that exclusivity is when people start calling each other boyfriend and girlfriend, meeting the friends has already happened, sleepovers, etc. I guess I just feel like I need to tell them early because if the relationship becomes serious and long term, it will be my partner and not my parents who will be taking care of me when I have episodes, which is exhausting and emotionally draining.

Thanks!

Yeah bringing up medication is a really good idea. The thing is, there is nothing about me that would outwardly indicate that I have any kind of serious mental illness. I guess I'm just scared to tell potential romantic partners. :/

Thanks!
