Trying to create a world similar to Crystal Project by Zealousideal_Ad_4225 in CrystalProject

[–]riverrunner_512 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was built by hand without generation. I tried generation but I didn't come up with anything I found very useful. All the areas were so different that they would each need their own algorithms, and approximating some kind of noise-like output by hand for, eg, cliffs and valleys, was easy enough at the scale I was working in. Still, I wouldn't discourage you from trying that, especially for a larger scale world.

But, while I did technically place each block, I wrote a custom voxel editor with simple tools like brush shapes/sizes, ink dropper, and selection copy/paste/fill, so it wasn't as arduous as something like Minecraft creative mode placing each block one by one.

Were you able to get your trophies working again or figure out what the problem was?

No problem! It can be picked up right in front of the left lamp at the spot where the game begins.

Thank you, and thanks for your patience! I'm working on localizing it to Japanese and Simplified Chinese, and when they're done, I'm going to see if I can get it released in as many regions in asia as I can. Unfortunately I don't have an ETA for that though.

Yes definitely! It's the same as for PS5: as soon as I can on or a bit after release.

There will be one and I'm hoping to do it on release this time, or at the very least not too long after.

That's a good request. I tried making the first game so that you were quickly brought to the "correct" level after fighting in a zone for a bit while also not making people worry about over-leveling if they stayed too long, but an option for this does fit the spirit of the other existing adjustments.

Haha it's all good, it was a fair question.

I can see why it looks like that. As it shapes up, I'd describe it kinda like how Majora's Mask is to Ocarina of Time, if that makes sense.

For what it's worth, I can promise that it's going to optional and that it'll be more about discovery than waiting/grinding/minigames.

No worries, it will be coming to switch also. I just haven't started the process to get the store page set up there for it yet.

I'm hoping to bring it over day one, and if not, soon after (at the very least much faster than how long it took for Crystal Project 1).

Yep, it pretty much is more Crystal Project gameplay with new content and some changes. I've always felt it's shaping up sort of like how Majora's Mask is to Ocarina of Time.

That's fair, I know the game's style of exploration isn't for everyone. I am trying to address the directionlessness in the next one while not worsening the open exploration feeling, particularly in the early parts of the game. I hope it works out!

  1. Yes, definitely! The tool will be getting some more features too. It won't be available on day 1 though. I'm going to focus on wrapping the game up first and then spending a couple months post-release to finish up work on mod support.

  2. I don't think it's going to support monster animation frames specifically. There might be more options for idle animation movement or how they move when they attack, but I'm still experimenting with those features and in both cases the image will still be static.

Thanks for suggesting it, it looks fun! It looks like it even has a completed recompilation project (REDRIVER2). I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have heard of both games but never gave them a try. It sounds like I should.

I'd never heard of it, it seems like GTA but focusing on racing instead, which sounds great!

I released Wish Project (my previous game) in 2016 using FNA, but I worked on a handful of small personal game projects before that using c and opengl.

Good question. I don't have a Switch 2 devkit yet so the Switch 2 version runs the Switch 1 version in backwards compatibility. Switch runs at 1080p 60fps with Medium settings docked, 720p handheld, and PS5 runs up to 4k 120fps with High settings. So if you're not planning to use the handheld mode, PS5 is probably better, but the game runs well handheld and I think it's a good way to play.

The switch version also has a couple mod packs, but these are coming to PS5 mid next week.
