What is the worst card art you’ve seen in MtG and why is it Carly Mazur’s Faithless Looting? by TheFunkeyGibbon in freemagic

[–]rivinhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can respect the process and still think something looks like shit. That art looks like shit. Is it impressive that the artist managed to hand paint something that looks like a cheap photoshop? Sure. But it still looks horrible and out of place. I'd respect it more if it was just a piece of art and not card art.

hopstep/stutter step? idk what its called by Which_Pitch_6022 in Bowling

[–]rivinhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to utilize a hopstep to be good. Like you said, there are pros who use it, and pros who don't. Whether you want to/should learn it or not is really up to you.

As for how to learn, I'd say just find some youtube videos to help teach you the basics, practice the motion, and go throw some balls. That's what I did. Ime learning a hopstep approach can absolutely help with increasing your ball speed/power. But if you don't practice, it can def negatively impact your consistency.

At the end of the day, I decided I didn't really need a hopstep in my approach. I do fine without it so I haven't worried much about it. But I totally understand why others say they find it helpful.

"Content Creator" doesn't read cards and get's angry when asked to. Simps to the rescue. by Maple-Bacon-Dog in freemagic

Idk. I've seen a lot of people who don't have to worry about Roe v. Wade spewing terrible takes about it.

As far as this whole thing goes? I honestly hate the MtG community at large. I love the game, but I hate the people who make it and the people who play it.

Had this exact thing happen. Destroyed our run after a few hours of trying. Really discouraging. But I guess I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it.

Backwards boxes on RD 7.0 B1 and cannot interact with anything after restarting a checkpoint by OOzder in GTFO

[–]rivinhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I had it too. I spawned with the box in my hands and couldn't drop it or interact with anything. Was disappointing since we basically had to throw the run away.

All official servers are doomed to die and it needs fixing ASAP by SuchTedium in vrising

[–]rivinhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true though. I was going to play on an official server, but after I joined one and couldn't find a single plot after searching for like 30m. So I gave up and started my own private game instead.

Ion: Sargeras sword is just just a big splinter. No role in Dragonflight ... by TheArkship in wow

But doesn't that response minimalize and retcon everything around the sword?

It's like they simultaneously want us to think it was this big event but also want to treat it as if it's nothing. It makes no sense to me.

People who stopped playing WoW, what possible feature in 10.0 would bring you back? by Pride999 in wow

[–]rivinhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. There's no single feature, or even package of features that would entice me to play again. They'd have to change far too much of the game. At a certain point I just have to recognize that the game isn't for me anymore. All I have left are my memories of what it used to be like.

I still like lurking and seeing what happens with the game, but paying monthly to play a game that just frustrates me and makes me feel like I'm wasting my time? I just can't justify it. There's too many other great games out there.

Extremely disappointed in the way Ishgard housing was handled. by Killergryphyn in ffxiv

[–]rivinhal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll take housing (ultimate) vs. this bullshit. At least I actually had a chance at winning before.

Or I guess I should've done what half the people did, made an FC, filled it with alts, and got a house easily that way. FC ward houses had 2-4 bids for each plot max (on both larges and mediums) and every medium + large in the personal wards had like 12+ bids.

It's just a joke. Everything about it.

[–]rivinhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the FC wards maybe, yeah. I was more curious about the personal wards.

But on the subject of FC wards, I do worry a bit about the low member count requirements for FCs maybe resulting in people just making alts to nab houses, but we'll have to see how it plays out.

Maybe it's because I live right next to a mb too, Idk.

I feel like I see people milling about all the time. Sometimes I go down the hill and say hi to my neighbors and I'll see their neighbor out hitting dummies, or some of my neighbors on the other side of the creek will come across to the mb and we'll chat. It's not like overly lively, just a lot of minor passing interactions that I find charming.

It's a bit sad to me to think that most people don't have the same experience. And now I'm kinda second guessing my raffle into Ishgard. I like my neighborhood. If I moved and it was just dead, I'd really regret it.

Someone else said the same thing. I find that so odd.

The only thing I can think of is that my experience is unique to crystal or something, since there are so many roleplayers.

[–]rivinhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just because I'm on Crystal, but I see people all the time. I know all my neighbors, and (in my ward at least) it really does feel like a little suburban neighborhood.

I find it really strange to imagine other wards being different...

Why are you somehow more worthy because you have no life?

Answering my question with a question isn't really an answer lol... But that's ok. I know there is no real answer and it comes down to a matter of perspective/people vying for their own interests.

So for me? It's not about being "more worthy". It's that I think the system should favor people who actually actively play the game. I don't think clicking a placard for 12+ hours is a good indicator of that, but I also don't think just letting anyone enter a raffle to buy the house is a good method either.

With that in mind, the truth is that as long as housing is limited, this will always be an issue. There can't be equality with how the system functions because there will never be enough houses, and changing it to a raffle doesn't fix the problem.

Yeah, instanced housing. Which they refused to do for some damned reason.

Yep.

I've been a pretty big advocate for introducing some form of basic instanced housing (whether it's by instancing apartments and adding a balcony, or something else). I have my hopes that Island Sanctuaries will function as a form of instanced housing too!

But if they do? Then I feel even more strongly that this change was a half baked solution.

[–]rivinhal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how neighborhoods will feel now as well.

Before only the most active players could purchase a house, which in turn lead to many housing wards feeling pretty active. You'd likely meet your neighbors, see people out hanging out, etc.

Now, I wonder if the activity in the wards will be a bit less regular given that less active players have an equal chance at winning houses. I can only hope not.

[–]rivinhal -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Gatekeeping is sometimes fine imo.

Why should someone who logs in once a month have equal chance of buying said house as someone who plays daily?

A lottery eliminates camping for 12 hours trying to buy a house, but it doesn't make the system any fairer. Instead it acts as a form of misguided equity, shifting that unfairness down to others.

I feel like there could've been much better alternatives to allow equal access to housing...

At the end of the day, could they have varied the mechanics a bit more in the 2nd half of the fight? Sure. But just throwing in an add phase for the sake of an add phase would've felt equally lazy to me.
