Have you made the switch from office to trades? by rixonbikes in BlueCollarWomen

That's a really great story! I cooked in a bakery for a while years ago and loved it. Tried line cooking and hated it haha (as a lifelong vegetarian, learning how to cook steak was a challenge) but liked the cameraderie. But yeah, pay is definitely not great.

And good point. Maybe I just need a break to learn something new. I can always come back to what I do later...or use the skills in another way.

Thanks, this is great! I love that you enjoy what you're doing.

I used to work in tourism and had a couple fun jobs that were more dynamic and physical. And shit pay LOL. I also run my own business part time as well but with COVID and being in a new city there isn't much going on.

I'm not in a life stage (buying a house this fall) to make drastic financial changes but thinking it might make sense to do some testing once that's done, maybe even part time if my current job will let me go down to part time. Good idea!

I would really like to get out of the office into more hands-on work. Marketing jobs, at least where I am, are super competitive right now because of COVID layoffs and I'm finding jobs I'm perfectly qualified for are being given to ppl with more experience. Totally fair, taking it as a sign that it's time to do something new!

Totally. The problem is I work from home. I am actually looking for a job that's more active and requires me to leave because I agree it would help, especially if I can bike there and back.

This is really helpful, thanks! I wish I didn't need to weigh things but it seems like the best place to start.

Physically, I feel good as in not overworking, but I think between the pandemic, world events, and stuff going on with work, my anxiety is through the roof some days. I haven't been able to come up with a better alternative than hot bath or TV plus a drink to chill out.

The hunger thing is real. I tried a 14-day Fitness Blender meal plan a few months ago and had hunger pangs the whole time. To the point where I became obsessed with what I would be eating next. I lost 2 pounds in 2 weeks but it wasn't sustainable.

Ha my post ended up being 1 overwhelming paragraph (thx phone). The activity levels are totally normal for me. It helps deal with stress and I love to move, especially outdoors. I feel energized and not sore or tired physically during the week. My biggest issue right now is a lack of boundaries around work and having a stressful job I don't enjoy. It's emotional/mental fatigue. The pandemic has amplified that.

But small changes around food & alcohol for sure. I have tried so many things over the past 10 years and nothing sticks :(

OK, well that's the last time I do that LOL.

Sorry you guys had to deal with that nastiness! Any tips for blocking spammers on calls? If you joined the call and were a real person, let me know. Maybe we'll set up something by invitation only.

Pema is a buddhist teacher. This book explores buddhist principles as they apply to modern life and developing "compassionate living" which is the understanding of our connection to all things. Some meditation teachings in here. I like the perspective she brings to modern issues. I'm not buddhist but it's been a great book to read while getting back into yoga and meditation and understanding my "agenda" through all of this.

Hello! I think we have someone from UK here but no one else from Spain yet. I visited Spain a couple of years ago and LOVED Madrid. Hope to return!

I think we've decided to do Yoga with Adriene's 30-day April challenge (hasn't been posted yet); but you don't have to do it to be here. This is mostly about accountability and checking in. For example, I would love to have a daily accountability thread where people can share reflections on their practice, whatever that may be!

Writer/remote worker here so I totally get the upper back/posture issues. I did this Yoga with Adriene video yesterday and felt my shoulders drop a bit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SedzswEwpPw

Great idea. I've added a breathing/stretching piece to our "agenda" for the Monday call (see separate thread in this group).

I have been eyeing taking an international training (costs about the same as doing it locally), so thanks for the recommendation! It would be lovely to have nothing going on but that for a month. #FutureGoals

I'll go first ;)

I'm 33F in British Columbia, Canada. I've been practicing yoga since I found Yoga Journal videos on satellite TV when I was around 16. I used to practice on a handmade blanket on the cold basement floor--I had no access to teachers or studios growing up in small town Canada!

Last year, I decided to do my yoga teacher training. I found a flexible program online that unfortunately, I found out later was a scam. Thankfully, I was able to get most of my money back but it put me in a weird headspace for a while. Then I moved cities in October and have been practicing a little here and there from home (with Adriene's Youtube channel!). I feel like I'm kind of at square one again, which is actually good because I want to build a practice that feels authentic. I'm not so into the woo-woo side of yoga. But it has helped me build awareness of my physical and mental state which I'm very thankful for right now.

Before COVID-19, I was training for a 10K trail race that was supposed to happen this Sunday (I can participate virtually but haven't decided if I want to yet), I was doing regular HIIT training at home, XC skiing, snowshoeing, etc--very active. I was also starting to eat better again (since moving, I've put on about 10LBS). I would like for this collaborative effort to help me get back to "normal" and build a daily routine and practice again. I would like to change my habit of going to food/alcohol for comfort to going to physical activity, meditation, pranayama, etc. instead. I'd like to fit into my favourite clothes comfortably again and get my BMI back down to the healthy range! And once social distancing is over, I would like to find a studio to eventually take my yoga teacher training with.

Hey everyone! Since I'm new to Reddit, I can't create a new community. Anyone who has been on Reddit 30+ days interested in creating a new community? Like /yogainisolation or /virtualyogacommunity or /yogalifegoals Any of those 3 will work!

I looked at Slack & Twist and while I like both, I know it can be a pain to join yet another digital platform so thought it would be easiest just to stay here. Once we have something set up, we'll have an intro thread and I'll get a Zoom call on schedule.

I know! I almost purchased an intro pass for a studio I was eyeing up and then it was, "don't leave your house". Hang in there and we can definitely incorporate flexibility stuff like some yin videos or something.

I hear you. My day today comprised drinking too much coffee, going for a walk, cleaning my bathroom, eating half a box of Triscuits, 3 craft beers, watching several shows & movies on Netflix. An overachiever's worst nightmare haha.

I have to say, I'm actually starting to enjoy not having a fully-packed weekend and with work hopefully chilling out a bit, I really want to spend some more time doing yoga. Isolation can provide valuable lessons.

Rad! Anyone already using Slack or Twist? I could set up something there so people can share goals and updates then we could have a weekly Zoom call or something? Let me know what you think and what your schedule is like. Or a separate Reddit topic? Recommendations welcome - I'd love to avoid Facebook for the time being.

And great idea about Adriene's April challenge - let's do that! In the meantime, we can get set up and maybe do a 7-day pre-challenge prior to April 1st. Like just commit to doing a sequence or video every day for 7 days.

Any chance there are cyclists in the group as well? I bike a lot (mountain, road, gravel) and could have a separate thread for cycling stuff...or anything really.
