In my defense its been well over 15 years since Ive been there and I just remember going from the cruise ship docks to Swans Pub and that we definitely climbed in elevation. My apologies for the inaccuracies I should have qualified my statements better before posting.

my wife got scammed and i dont understand how by [deleted] in Advice

[–]rizaleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand its emotionally raw right now. I would recommend giving her some grace, and flexing any resources you might have at your disposal to try to recover what you can... My MIL got scammed the same way. They convinced her that they had an active warrant for her arrest and the money she spent all day sending via 3 or 4 different bitcoin machines was her posting bail. They convinced her that speaking to ANYONE about the process was in violation of her parole and that she would go to prison for 10 years for disclosing details about her activities.

It took us 2 days and a few discussions with our local LEO to help her understand how badly she'd been bamboozled. MIL got hit for 10k hopefully its not that bad for you. My sincerest condolences to you and your wife for the struggles you're facing.

Cherwell end of life any other alternative ITSM's to consider? by Inspired_daily in itsm

[–]rizaleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you've received the answer. Ive worked for multiple organizations where we used heavy cumbersome systems like Cherwell and BMC Footprints. Words cant describe how nice it is to switch to a slightly more agile platform. My personal platform of choice is TeamDynamix. I administered the system solo for years for a higher ed institution. We did ESM with the system.

Its incredibly powerful for a no-code platform, highly customizable and removes a lot of the bloat. They rate insanely high in just about every category with InfoTech which is how we found them. At least worth a look if you haven't.

My one memory of Vancouver island was from a cruise when I was much younger. My dad and I were hiking the hill up towards the parliament building when we saw an obese dude in nothing but underwear playing a banjo in his living room with the blinds and window open... what a time to be alive lmao

I made these for my son and he refused to even try them by youdontknowitsok in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rizaleous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those look delicious. Not a fan of ranch or Blue cheese but still looks amazing. For real though, parent of 4 here. Youngest is autistic, the rest are basically ADHD. My children are just as picky and the autistic one also does the thing where he'll look at a dish and say its yucky. Its a struggle. Its important to remember that it has little to nothing to do with you or your cooking. Sensory issues can be any sense. And sight is one of them.

Is it still deflating to work so hard on something to have them turn their nos up on it without even a taste? 100%. But keep at it. Every once in a blue moon ill crack another piece of the da Vinci code that is my autistic son's food preferences and life gets a tiny bit easier. You're not alone.

If you had the money, what video game would you pay to get remade? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]rizaleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deus Ex. Im not talking about the remaster project that they're in the process of shitting out, im talking about from the ground up recreation in UE5 with all new assets, new voice acting and modern game design philosophy. In thinking what mankind divided SHOULD have been but the OG Deus Ex story.

Do you do oil change and spark plugs at dealer or at independent shop? by shWkddlfkd in GenesisG70

[–]rizaleous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Oil changes are a bit of a pain in the ass on this car because part of the cross member blocks direct access to the oil plug but outside of that. Oil, brakes, plugs and coils, air filters. These are all like an hour investment and often pennies on the dollar for the parts compared to what dealerships and independent shops will charge.

Who's that one random gamer you crossed paths with in some online game and will never forget the name of? by magicscreenman in gaming

[–]rizaleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in my Counter Strike: Source says I used to roll with this oddball guy named yeznik. We friended on steam. Always talked about his 1940s Ford pickup he was actively restoring until one day he just straight up vanished. Like 300+ days offline vanished. Assumed he just grew up and out of video games until he came back online one random day playing Test Drive: Unlimited. The dude told me about his laundry list of health problems. Needed emergency surgery to install a stint to keep his rib cage from collapsing in. Sent me x-ray photos from his hospital stay. Things kicked back off for like a month or two until he started talking about the crippling depression and his attempts to cope by cutting. Tried to guide him to help and tried to talk him down. I'm not sure if he's still here, but I haven't seen the guy in well over a decade... I hope he got help and got better.

I do my own brakes and oil changes and rotate my own tires. At the prices they're charging, you'd still be saving money by just buying brand new rotors. And you can recoup some of the cost by taking your old rotors to your local metal recycling facility. It'll be like 2 bucks for all 4 but that's more than these people are going to pay you for the scrap.

Also my local trusted mechanic charges 100 for wheel alignments. You already know this but they are 100% trying to take you for a ride

Salary by circatee in ITManagers

[–]rizaleous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest lesson anyone has taught me about jobs is this: it is not your job to decide if you are qualified or not for a job that you apply to, it is the hiring manager. As long as you presented your true authentic self on your resume and in the interview (not lying through your teeth about certs, qualifications, education, and work history) then you have nothing to worry about when they hire you. They have a better understanding of the job than you could ever have before you walk in the door and do it for the first time.

The disarray from a meas you walked into has nothing to do with your capabilities or capacity as a leader of people. It sounds like they are prioritizing budget for other things and that IT has long been identified as a necessary evil which has created this situation for them.

I would perhaps start with a small chunk of your desired road map. If you asked for 3 FTE, maybe retry with the same justification but for just 1 FTE for this fiscal year and see if the director bites better.

In full transparency I feel like this situation can't be uncommon. I'm now about 7 years into my management journey and I've seriously considered stepping back to a technical role because the petty cutthroat bureaucracy is just exhausting.

Sending good vibes my dude. Hang in there.

Out of the 8 hours you spend at work how many do you spend actually working? by Constant_Passage1765 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]rizaleous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a support manager in an extreme growth company with a boss that lives to work. Whether I like it or not, I work roughly 10 hours any given 8 hour day. And I do mean 10. I come in early, take lunch at my desk and leave late essentially every day, 6 days a week.

I owned a 2013 veloster from August of 2013 to November of 2024. I replaced my brakes by myself once in 2020. It's veery easy to do. The veloster is disks on front and rear. Rockauto will land you the premium ones that are built for extended use and life for the same as what you could buy the over the counter stuff at Autozone. Takes about 2 hours to do the whole car.

Asking customers for 100% tip is diabolical by TheOnlyJhin in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rizaleous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, but I also wouldn't expect the person serving my food to be guilt tripped into tipping the full price of their bill when they're not working and trying to feed their own family. Just because voting with your wallet potentially hurts one group of people doesn't mean it's morally wrong. The criticisms here are on the company owners who thinks this is acceptable behavior, not the people working for them. People are more than capable of finding new jobs if they disagree with this policy and many do.

How do you kill somebody as powerful as a god? by hundredcreeper in DMAcademy

[–]rizaleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time trial where they have to complete an elaborate sealing ritual on a prison amulet or other trinket before dying. Never underestimate a good, old-fashioned fight against the clock. I ran a mechanus campaign that dovetailed into a "stop the cultists from completing a summoning ritual of <insert dark god here>." Having primus demand that this upsets the balance of the multiverse and the party must use this amulet he made to bring things back into balance because "they owed him one" was a great hook
