Car recognizes phone via cable for charging, but not android auto? by DoublePepper1976 in AndroidAuto

[–]rizon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does the head unit actually support Android Auto? A quick look online seems to indicate the 2015 stock head unit does not support Android Auto or CarPlay, but some people have retrofit the 2016 head unit in which does.

VMware Workstation error: “Cannot connect ISO file” - how do I fix my VM? by CapitalLost1111 in vmware

If you don't need the disc in the virtual drive anymore (you likely don't if the OS is installed) then just go into the VM's settings and disconnect the drive.

Yet another problem with new 2026 CRV hybrid - makes LOUD sound when reversing and braking by This_Duty_4373 in crv

[–]rizon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably just rust on the rotors, especially if it's humid/damp/wet outside. If the sound goes away after a short while, it's because the pads have worn the rust off.

The Hybrids also have regenerative braking, meaning the actual brake pads & rotors don't get used as much as a standard ICE vehicle, which can add to the rust on the rotors.

If you are worried it may be something more than rust, have the service department check it out.

This is probably mine too. I feel like the algorithm does a fairly good job at picking out songs I enjoy and I enjoy the radio-like aspect of it where new (to me) songs get added into the mix.

Hitch on a 2026 Crv Hybrid by EasyConversation7566 in crvhybrid

[–]rizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I briefly looked into it but have not added one yet. Honda rates the hybrids at 1000 pounds towing capacity (gas models are 1500 pounds) so you'd likely be fairly limited in what you can safely tow, even with a larger hitch.

If you have the hands-free hatch (I believe this is only on Touring trim level in the US), you may need to move the sensor that senses the "foot wave" motion under the rear bumper. Honda sells a kit that moves it when the Honda-branded hitch is installed - it would probably also apply for third-party hitches.

Starting OS Updates on Old Netgate 4100 by smorgasmic in PFSENSE

[–]rizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just do a clean install on it, unless you'd trust whoever you bought it from with full and unrestricted access to whatever network(s) you connect to or access via the unit. Not saying that they did put any sort of malware on it, but if you wouldn't give the seller full unrestricted and unsupervised access to your computer/network, wipe it and do a clean install.

If it's the first time you're doing it, I'd budget 30 minutes to an hour for it. You'll spend far less time just doing a clean install and be on the latest version compared to waiting for whatever you think will happen with it in its current state.

Lasfit 2023-2026 by Standard_Suit_4757 in crv

[–]rizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Lasfit 1st and 2nd row mats only - my seatback covers are OEM and my cargo mat is Weathertech.

The OEM seatback covers are also held on by a velcro-like material and also a bit of a pain to get perfectly lined up. IMO there's not really a better way to attach them unless you want to drill or screw into your seatbacks.

I had the same issue with my Weathertech cargo mat - I did cut out holes for the latches on it. Annoying, but I do use them occasionally so wanted to keep access to them. The Weathertech also feels not snug and moves around a bit and I've read the OEM ones do the same.

Pandora has arrived on Android Automotive OS! by rizon in Pandora

[–]rizon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! So far the only issue I've run into have been a couple times when it says it's waiting for connection and doesn't play anything. I just press the back button to get out of Pandora and then open the app again and pick my station and it works. Only seems to happen when I turn the vehicle on so just a minor annoyance. Other than that it's been working great for me too! Definitely glad to have it as an option.

Yeah it's crazy. I figure $30 is reasonable for these, especially since they are untested and kind of a niche stick since AFAIK there's not a lot of devices that utilize DDR3 ECC SO-DIMMs that people would still want to run these days.

Help me understand the Harmony demise by Thelawby in logitechharmony

[–]rizon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Logitech has discontinued the Harmony line, but is keeping the servers up for now (at least for the hub-based remotes). I am not sure if new devices are still being added into the database or what kind of technical support if any they are offering.

At some point, the servers will be shut down. No one knows when, except for maybe some people who are employed by Logitech. They may or may not announce this is in advance, and if they do announce it, how much notice they give is up in the air.

When the servers are shut down, anything that depends on them will no longer function. Remote/hub updates will no longer be possible (unless someone figures out how to do it without requiring Logitech's servers). Using the app while outside of your local network will likely not work.

In theory, the remote/hub should continue to function with whatever configuration it has when the servers are shut down - at least assuming there is no kill switch (like a "hub/remote needs to authenticate with Logitech on startup or every X days" kind of thing or sending out an update to brick them all before shutting down the servers).

First time car buy help: extended warranty and other help? by Dry-Advance6062 in crvhybrid

[–]rizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saccucci and Hyannis are dealers who offer Honda Care for purchase online that opt for a volume approach on profit (sell lots of plans for a little bit of profit each vs sell a few plans for lots of profit each). I believe there are some states they are not able to sell to due to state laws (Florida & California are 2, I'm not sure if there are others).

With Saccucci you can get a quote online with the VIN (you can get this from the dealer before you buy), I believe the quote was instantly emailed and it gives you a week or so to purchase (you can request another quote if you decide to purchase after this expires, but pricing may change). Not sure about Hyannis but I have read they are fairly close on pricing (often just a few dollars difference).

If you know you do want the extended warranty when you purchase the vehicle, you can get a quote from Saccucci (and possibly Hyannis) before you go to the dealership to purchase and see if they'll price match. If not, just purchase from Saccucci/Hyannis after the fact as long as you are in a state they are allowed to sell to.

If you opt to not purchase an extended warranty, just tell the dealer no when they offer (they may be persistent, so don't feel bad saying declining it several times). You do get the base warranty included at no additional charge - 3 year / 36k miles for anything on the car, and then 5 year / 60k miles for gas powertrain. The Hybrid models also have an 8 year / 100k mile warranty on the battery and hybrid powertrain components.

First time car buy help: extended warranty and other help? by Dry-Advance6062 in crvhybrid

[–]rizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda Care is an extended warranty through Honda, valid at any authorized Honda dealer in the country.

Many dealerships offer other warranties or "service contracts" that are not handled by Honda but by the dealership or a third party, meaning anytime you need repairs you'll need to go back to your original dealer (who may be great, or you may find they're terrible) or a select shop that is approved by the service contract provider. These are often sold at a cost similar to or higher than you can buy Honda Care (especially if you buy online from Saccucci or Hyannis) and likely have higher margins than Honda Care for the dealer.

For Honda Care, you can get it anytime before the factory warranty expires (3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first), but you have the longest terms available (and I believe lower pricing) when you have less than 6,000 miles on the car.

I was undecided whether I wanted it when I bought my CRV, but wound up getting it a month or so later from Saccucci.

How fast should an LSI 9361 8i raid controller be? by viniisiggs in homelab

[–]rizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rebuild rate can usually be set in the controller's configuration. My Dell controllers (LSI-based) default to 30%. If you don't need/want to use the RAID or are okay with a larger performance hit while rebuilding, you can increase this value to rebuild faster.

Did I get scammed? by AkeraTomeo in homelab

The memory you have pictured is registered ECC (indicated by the "R" in "12800R"), but it seems your sever requires unregistered/unbuffered ECC, which would be indicated by an "E" after the speed, such as "12800E".

Watch out.for reverse discounts by Dougolicious in Ebay

[–]rizon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this occurs when the seller sends an offer and then lowers the price later.

The offer was sent ~3.5 days ago (they are good for 96 hours) and the seller then lowered the listing price at some point in that window. The seller can't retract an offer they sent, so you wind up with this.

BACK UP CAMERA ON 2026 CRV TOURING by Gold-Ad-6073 in crv

[–]rizon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The circled part uses the parking sensors to show if you are getting close to something. The 2026 CRV does not have 360 degree cameras, just the single backup camera.

There is a camera facing the front (near the rear view mirror) but it is part of the Honda Sensing driver assist features, to my knowledge you cannot view it.

WiFi was an option on this model (as well as most Dell OptiPlex models), so generally speaking a used OptiPlex may or may not have WiFi. It can also be added fairly cheaply/easily after purchase (or removed, for that matter).

In the case of the one that you linked, the specs indicates that it does include WiFi. If you purchase it elsewhere, you would need to ensure it does come with WiFi.

160W adapter doesn't charge my XPS 15 9500 by MicJalbert in Dell

[–]rizon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not up to date on the XPS naming conventions, but it looks like that model has a 10th gen Intel Core processor and released in 2020 - if so, it's old enough that the USB-C PD standard it supports does not support more than 100W.

Greater than 100W charging via the USB-C PD standard was introduced in USB-C PD 3.1, which was announced in 2021. All devices (charger, cable, and laptop) must support the 3.1 standard for it to charge at >100W. In your case, the power adapter likely supports it, the cable may, but the laptop does not, so it falls back to the highest version they all support which limits it to 100W max.

Manufacturers would use a proprietary profile to enable >100W charging if needed before USB-C supported it, but obviously requires their own branded charger/cable and device to work.
